This is horrible. I have an Irish Son In Law that had to jump thru hoops to be here legally. It took years. Part of it was TFG not staffing the state department properly. The rest was the myriad of stupid rules. These people will not be alive by the time their visas are processed. That’s on our govt.

Canada lifted Visas yesterday. I’m not sure what good it will do but hopefully some more of people we are responsible for will make it through, maybe by way of Pakistan or another neighbouring country and then here.

I just read that the Taliban has secured the airport and I’m praying that this might be a positive situation; keeping ISIS from further attacks. I know, a big hope but what else is there at this time.

Interesting…and sometimes legal fees seem as onerous as interest.

There are apparently some US Citizens deciding they don’t want to leave Afghanistan, which is going to complicate any GOP narrative about how Biden is stranding Americans after we pull out. This from CNN:

There are approximately 350 Americans still looking to leave Afghanistan, according to a State Department spokesperson.

These individuals are currently the only Americans the State Department can confirm are still in the country and seeking to leave, the Department said, and it believes some of them are nearly out or already out of Afghanistan.

The State Department also said it has communicated with roughly 280 additional individuals who self-identified as Americans but who have not told the Department of their plans to leave the country, or who have said they do not intend to leave at all.

That has never stopped them before (see COVID). However, I see your point. Americans are not as monolithic as Republicans would like them to be.

So painful to read about. This is how a lot of people were lost in the Holocaust: red tape and vicious anti-immigrant fervor. They were different, they were suspect, they weren’t our kind of folks. So we condemned them to death instead of letting them settle here. I follow the Auschwitz Twitter feed that tells their names and shows their pictures and says whether they perished or not, and of course most did. It’s like that, but with the person still alive. For God’s sake get them out.

I can’t find the link for it now, but one of the BBC live pages reported a Taliban official saying that any Afghan with valid paperwork was free to leave the country and return again if they wanted to.

We’ll have to see if they stick to that as time goes on, and the mechanics of physically leaving won’t be easy unless civilian airline flights resume and border crossings free up. But at least right now they’re saying that they’re not preventing anyone from leaving with a visa of some kind.

And now for the comic relief: Milo Yiannopoulos says he has covid and evidently injected himself with Ivermectin. It’s a cult thing; we wouldn’t understand.

I hope he used enough.

What I love is these are the people who tell us, “Do some research!”

I’m starting to think they say that in bad faith .

I just think their idea of what research is doesn’t really coincide with ours. Research for them is reading the Gateway Pundit and so forth.
