Cook is a decent economist, and unlike EJ Antoni PhD, had a heavyweight economist, Barry Eichengreen as her thesis adviser. So far the stock market reaction is muted, but central bank independence is a big deal. It seems that Trump is counting on Peter Thiel’s fantasy that US wealth will explode upon the unleashing of Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) during his current term. It overlooks that AI slop may be a flop as there isn’t that much attention out there to monetize and humans already know enough about how to survive, thrive, and hurt each other.

He hates it because there was a wind farm off the coast of one of his shitty golf courses in Scotland and he thought that the sight of the turbines was eroding his real estate price. It’s never anything deeper than that: it’s always about something that personally offends his pocket or his ego.
Now, in his dementia, he doesn’t even remember why he hates wind farms: he just remembers all the bullshit reasons he’s given for why they are bad.

There are a lot of prisms to look through for this issue.
One we should mention is that Russia and Saudi Arabia are oil exporting states. They would prefer if the US continued subservient to their supply. And I hope no one on the forum needs to ask why Russia and Saudi Arabia would so deeply affect US policy during a Trump administration.

That’s a really good question. A similar question could be asked of XY teens who for whatever reason don’t produce enough androgens. Does giving them testosterone qualify as gender-affirming care?
Under any reasonable interpretation both are gender-affirming care, but you know as well as I do that when they use the term gender-affirming care they mean it in the very narrow sense of "affirming transgender people*.
So I don’t know whether those uses qualify as gender-affirming care that needs to be banned or not.

I spent the time to look it up. Less than 1% of the population identifies as trans, about 2.8 million people.
Democratic support for civil rights for all should rightly include these people.

The point is that the institutions which can and should stand up to Trump are not doing it. Certainly not enough of them. The battles are fought in the courts (too many of which are bending the knee) and require the money and networks of large institutions and, frankly, rich people. What do we do while that process plays out? Yes, we write letters; we express our outrage publicly; we challenge the neighbor, the sibling, the child, the parent, the aunt, the uncle, the cousin; we speak; we march; we do what we can now before the blood begins to flow. And the blood will begin to flow sooner everytime one of the institutional or commercial power centers bows down or hands over money to the bastard in the Oval Office. If it ultimately comes down to street fighting and the like, we do that if we’re able. What do you propose?

A medical professionals, we are committed to serving all our patients, and our very first command is to do no harm. Medicine is not in the business of rationing care based on political ideology or religious beliefs. If we were, we would be politicians. So we will continue to provide the care our medical training dictates, and we suggest politicians cease making medical decisions based on their own ignorance and authoritarian motives. If that wasn’t clear enough, we will stay in our lane and we suggest the president and his followers stay in theirs.
That’s fucking courage. Let the motherfucker fight on 1,000 fronts. Stop fucking rolling over.

Your proposal is not supported by the evidence. Half of the country is convinced that teachers are out to tell their kids too much about being male or female.
About half of the remainder will acknowledge that everyone should know how to read but would much prefer it if they didn’t read much.
They are remarkably dumb people. Not trained to think through implications of anything; odd since many of his flunkies made it through law school.
That is one reason they are so primed to punch people who ask too many questions.
