A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Why Do Texas Republicans Hate College Football? Generally I don’t flag whacky proposed legislation at the state level or bills that don’t have much…
Look, it all started, basically, with Galileo Galilei, and it’s been down hill ever since. Some sacrifices are going to have to be made if we’re going to stop the “woke mind virus.”
People who feel the NEed to brag about being the first to comment on a comment board and post cat pictures are simply seeking ATTENTION and validation . It’s a pathetic Attempt to gain some sort of recognition in a world that doesn’t care about their existence. In reality, BEING first to post is not an achievement, and posting cat pictures adds nothing to THe ConvERSation. It’s just noise in an already cluttered space. If they truly want to contribute something meaningful, they should focus on adding value to the discussion instead of seeking aTTention for their Own Ego…
But yesterday’s vote by the Texas Senate to end tenure at the state’s three dozen or so public universities is so extraordinary and representative of the current cultural moment that it’s worth your attention.
Emporia State University in Kansas did that exact same thing a little over a year ago. This enabled the University President to fire two professors who’d been with the University for over 20 years. Eliminating tenure is a thing now. Republicans will use this to cancel the acquisition of knowledge at all levels.
Hmm, apparently the distinguished members of the Texas Senate are unfamiliar with the provisions of the First Amendment. Perhaps they can steer this case to Amarillo. As far as denying tenure? Cutting their own throats.
But… but… you just told us that there was no way a civil case could produce that kind of admission of fault!
And if I were a journalist making this point in a news article, I’d actually explain what the fuck it means long term for Aggie and Longhorn football, instead of just waving my hands vaguely about it. Support your assertion that it’ll mean… anything.
FTFY.
Invited. Summoning him would involve compulsion, which you straight up make the point Durbin can’t do as long as Republicans won’t fill the SJC seat, and Manchinema won’t support a rules change.
Smartmatic has support on this, just like Dominion had. I still think foxruble$ may help them forget that demand. Murdoch wants to pretend it didn’t happen.
More like me-owch, WhaT a lame AttemPt at a response. Maybe taKE a play OUT of the ghosTS playbook and don’t say anything at all if you have nothing valuable to add to the conversation!
More fallout from the Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit against the Fox News Network and the Murdoch Family. Lachlan Murdoch a Fox Corporation chief executive and oldest son to Rupert Murdoch filed a defamation lawsuit against this Australian website, Crikey, which had accused the family’s conservative media corporation of helping to fuel the fires the January 6, 2021, insurrection. Early this morning in Australia, Lachlan Murdoch dropped the lawsuit against the website claiming that he won the battle, and this is what the Murdoch’s lawyers had to say about dropping the lawsuit.
"However, he does not wish to further enable Crikey's use of the court to litigate a case from another jurisdiction that has already been settled and facilitate a marketing campaign designed to attract subscribers."
Crikey’s lawyers went into court and were asking the court for the right to present the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit and outcome. After that happened, Lachlan Murdoch dropped the lawsuit.
The House debt-ceiling-hostage vote next week is shaping up to look an awful lot like the vote for speaker back in January.
Early this week, NPR played a bit of an interview via someplace else in which the reporter asked McCarthy if he thought he had the support of his caucus for his proposal; he responded, “I think I have the support of the American people.” And I said to myself, “So, that’s a No.”
