The Reconciliation Package Finally Takes Shape

Yesterday’s meetings between President Joe Biden and various groups of Democrats at the White House yielded some specifics about which programs will likely be in or out of the final package. The climate piece seems amorphous still — no doubt due to the fossil fuel-loving proclivities of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).

“The Reconciliation Package Finally Takes Shape”

Like Manchin and Sinema birthed a giant turd on a pottery wheel? We’ll see…

Let’s get this done. I’m bullish on the mid-terms and therefore on Congress’s being able to add the other things next term, as the popularity of these things sinks in.

Let’s do this.

Fine, I’ll take it. Just get the damn thing done!

It is at times like this I get the urge to temper my weak smile with the sense of practiced gloom because I am old enough to know the American electorate’s “battered wife syndrome” means they will likely fall for the “Democrats didn’t get everyone a thoroughbred pony with stable and feed included in 2 years or less, therefore put us back in power so we can LOVE you like never before, dear” strategy as they almost always do.

You keep telling them the same thing - elect more and better Democrats to actually get the most critical things done. And they keep telling you that no, they want to get back together with that husband, because they know he’ll really change this time, really and truly.

Two to four years later, you can’t enforce multiple restraining orders anymore, and you’ve been photographed by the cops multiple times in the ER to no avail, and you fear for your life, and wonder what you were thinking. Rinse and repeat.

My only hope is maybe by going so completely crazy they have decimated their own numbers and motivation to the point that the GQP can’t get it together no matter how they try to sweet talk us.

Use your anger, Dems…don’t let anger use you.

Meanwhile, bad news for fans of this beloved west coast burger chain:

I wouldn’t eat there, if there was one nearby. I’m on the east coast so it’s not an option, although I did eat there and enjoyed it once years ago, but all you meat-loving lefty coasters got some tough decisions to make.

I was in a business meeting yesterday with people making decisions on how to approach Congress over the next few years. There is a widespread belief among the lobbyist class that the Republicans are going to retake the house. That belief is based on history. If we are going to keep the house blue we are going to need to nominate great candidates and get out the vote. This reconciliation bill is critical to holding the house. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

We are going to have to put a positive spin on this bill. That shouldn’t be too hard. Just accentuate the positive.

Well stated. I wish we could move beyond this but it’s going to be difficult when one party, backstopped by Fox, OAN, etc., sabotages everything they can while lying about their actions and their intentions. :unamused:

He was by no means perfect, but I think Colin Powell’s 13 rules are handy to keep in mind:

  1. It ain’t as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.

  2. Get mad, then get over it.

  3. Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.

  4. It can be done.

  5. Be careful what you choose: You may get it.

  6. Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.

  7. You can’t make someone else’s choices. You shouldn’t let someone else make yours.

  8. Check small things.

  9. Share credit.

  10. Remain calm. Be kind.

  11. Have a vision. Be demanding.

  12. Don’t take counsel of your fears or naysayers.

  13. Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.

McConnell, In Speech Aimed At Manchin, Decries Dems’ ‘War On Coal’

Dems are pretty much the turd in the punchbowl, always at war with racism, poverty, inequality, the pandemic, climate change. Don’t they effing realize we have an eventual civil war to conduct, followed by the extinction of our species!?!? Sheesh. Let’s get on with it!!

Just pass a law that says that if anyone ate a a place that doesn’t enforce vaccination mandate the customer will be able to sue him if he contracts Covid within a week.

I’m not sure that would stand as they could have caught it anywhere and I think the law requires demonstrating a causal connection beyond a reasonable doubt, and with covid that’s not possible unless you can prove you had no other human contact during that time, which is highly unlikely and all but impossible to prove.

This needs to be kept in the hands of authorities. We shouldn’t adopt the Texas model of law enforcement.

As usual McConnell is trolling plus deflecting from his pal Oleg’s arrest.
There are 13k coal jobs in West Virginia. More people actually work at Arbys nationwide. Even the United Mine workers know the game is up and see the need to retrain their workers. The other energy jobs in the state are natural gas and nuclear related. The health care sector has also expanded as well as a primary employer of women.

And all this time you thought you voted for Biden|Harris 2020 when the real ticket was Mansion|Enema 2020. Surprise!

If there was ever a more clear sign that Republicans are the party of yesterday with zero ideas for the future, McConnell’s whine about a “war on coal” pretty much nails it. At best, coal is 19th century technology, but god forbid we ever move on from a dying industry. So even though we’ve moved on from whale oil, muskets, wooden sailing ships, horses, buggies, child labor, slavery, indentured servitude, and a million other obsolete ideas, let’s all have a tantrum and refuse to move on from coal, oil and gas. As long as it gins up votes from ignorant morons.
