Back when SC judges were people who brought their humanity to their job rather than apparatchiks appointed to support the team.

We have missed Justice Stevens’s leadership for many years. We really miss the existence of a Republican Party that might appoint a man like Justice Stevens. What we have now is a thoroughly radicalized lawless organization that believes in power as opposed to the rule of law.

He was an outstanding jurist and SCOTUS sorely misses his keen & incisive intellect.

I am sadden to think Gorusch, Roberts & Kavanaugh will be on the bench as long as Stevens.

In the long arc of his life, it’s a minor thing.

But worth remembering: John Paul Stevens was in the stands the day Babe Ruth called his shot.
