I cancelled x a while back but i did see the apology from Manning, and there were a couple of comments before I would have to sign up to continue.
This country has a lot of problems, climate, water, war, but the meanness of spirit that so many people display “anonymously” is pretty appalling. I don’t mean the vitriol we spew against trump and his fellow treasonous fascists, that’s pretty well earned, but this garbage. Hahaha, here’s a fake but realistic video of Coach slapping a woman reporter for no reason. Great fun! Look, there’s a beaver in a parking lot trying to get to his pond, lets run him over, what fun (saw that episode on one of those game warden shows), lets try to humiliate the women basketball players by throwing dildos on the court, more fun (not hats for a hat trick, dildos for misogyny I guess).
We seem to be working towards a changed trajectory on the evolutionary tree, from growing stronger together to a mean and nasty dead branch.

Great coverage here. Looking forward to seeing more of this from Kate and TPM in the future. As someone who played sports growing up and was closely involved in DI athletics in college (but on the sidelines) I’ve grown disenchanted with the culture and business in sports that has continued to spread exponentially in the last two decades. I’ve found the W and other women’s sports (football/soccer among them) to be welcome reminders of why I loved sports originally. Keep it up, Kate.

The thing Americans have to realize is that despite what happening in your particular corner of the world, it specifically is not happening in most of the rest of the world.
Sure, we’ve had the Putins and AfD in Germany, etc for a while, but the EU, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, etcetcetc are most definitely Not! following TSF down his “rabid hole”. I know it feels like you’re living in an insane timeline (and yes, you are) but there are alternatives out there, and with some effort in the next few weeks, the US can start to fight its way back.
Have faith, dig in, and do what you can to be a part of the solution.
As my chem prof used to say:
“If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate…”

It’s too bad Kate Riga is unable to distinguish between the Hate Women right wingers who’ve been using trans athletes demagogically as a political battering ram, and those who genuinely and with good scientific basis want to maintain the integrity of women’s sports without excluding trans athletes from competition. For the latter, a read of the IOC’s document and statement on the protection of the female category in Olympic sport, commissioned by the female IOC President, is a good place to start.
