The Political World's Five-Alarm Mamdani Meltdown

Originally published at: The Political World’s Five-Alarm Mamdani Meltdown

Hello it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender :coffee: We have a stage five political freakout on our hands.  In the four days since Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani became the Democratic Party’s nominee in the New York City mayoral election, a lot of people have completely lost it. The reactions have ranged from predictable to deeply…

Establishment reaction to Mandami…

This week they were shell shocked… they thought that if Cuomo won, they could shame Mandami’s WFP 3rd party run… with a back up plan that should Cuomo come in first, even if ultimately losing by the RCV, there’s be room, politically to support him.

They got neither and spent days try to come to terms, not sure they’ve even got there yet.

It truely demostrates the problem we have with the party.

Happy weekend all!

Without knowing anything else about Mamdani the right-wing freakout alone would make me a supporter.

Sure hope he can get the win.

“Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) went the even-more-apoplectic route with a seemingly AI-generated rendition of the Statue of Liberty covered in a mourning shroud.”

Not a mourning shroud. Islamophobia again. Burqa - Wikipedia

Big error.

It’s ironic watching establishment Democrats lecture voters about what’s “best” for them when they’ve repeatedly lost national elections and failed to deliver meaningful change. This is a New York City primary. it’s about what these voters want, not some grand narrative about the Democratic Party as a whole. Given the right-wing freakout and the establishment’s panic, Mamdani clearly has them worried. I hope he wins.

What is galling is the complete lack of awareness of that irony…

The real irony is that maggots hate big, ‘woke, leftist’ cities, and New York is the biggest of the ‘woke, leftist’ cities. So why are they concerned that something bad may happen to it?

As always, they can all, Bill Ackman in particular, fuck off.

Given the excellent likeness of JV Dunce, when I read this I substituted a u for the a. I know that it’s appropriate as an intellect comparison. All other suppositions are at the readers discretion.

Heaven forbid that an American politician focus on making some changes to improve the conditions for lower-income people, workers, the average person, people with young children … And – worse yet – that the politician should appear to be serious about trying to get some of these things done…and remains seemingly popular with a significant swath of the electorate.

This is a capitalist country, focused on big success and big business and cutthroat competition, god damn it. And as such, ZM’s proposals are not what we stand for or will ever stand for. Don’t give those little people expectations!

We’ll give 'em bits and pieces. As good Democrats, absolutely we will. Happy to do some of that. But we are fully committed to doling it out only as our Davos masters prescribe. Mamdani wants little people running the show and that is never the American way.

ETA: I really don’t like being this disgusted with my own party.

I don’t think it’s the suit, which may be relatively cheap to settle, so much as the threat that TSF will use the government’s agencies to interfere with their business.

And if those self-same MAGAts actually dare to venture a single toe into NYC, they’d be eating at the franchise restaurants all around Times Square.
