I mean that is exactly what is happening not only in this case but in every case in front of this Republican first and only Supreme Court. They provide reasoning, often contradictory from a prior case, to obtain the result they want.
But led by Chief Injustice John Roberts, the majority of his court start with their conclusion, Republicans always win, and work backwards. You know, the opposite of how science and deciding legal cases is suppose to work.

In all these cases furthering right wing christian nationalist autocracy, the reich wing Justices have preformed a desired outcome, they then construct a quasilegal framework to make it seem reasoned. As you note, the reasoning is superficial, but they apparently don’t give a flying fuck.** The important thing to remember is that they have pre-decided. That they bother to go through the motions is simply a show and unvarnished bullshit.
**And why should they care? They are there for life. The SupCt is truly a power unto itself. Unless the political winds change dramatically, they can never be removed and their decisions will never be challenged.
The determination by this court to take us back 100 years or so is breathtaking. So is the fact they’ve ordained the goon and his minions as their vehicle. The US has become the laughingstock of the developed world.
Will the likes of Alito and Thomas support obsolete and ineffective medical procedures like leaches and bloodletting since they’re in the “history and tradition” of the country?

You keep using the term ‘“reich wing JUSTICES”. They are in fact reich wing INJUSTICES. That is not only are their ruling INJUSTICES, the very people themselves committing the INJUSTICES should be called, because they are, INJUSTICES in everyway including in some cases their very appointments to be INJUSTICES.
What the current majority of the Supreme Court is doing has nothing to do with “history and tradition” and everything to do with power and keeping it in their hands forever.
I mean if this was about history and tradition they would not be overruling precedent. That is if this had anything to do with the original meaning of the constitution, John Marshall would have said so.
Or to put another way, the overruling of precedent is a statement that indeed the current Supreme court is original in their interpretation of the constitution. I mean original to them and not to anyone else or they would be ruling to support precedent and not overrule it.

This court is so corrupt, morally and intellectually, so weak, so willing to do the work of a psychotic, ignorant, stupid chief executive, that there is hardly any point in reading about them, talking about them, or paying any attention to them at all. Perhaps when the so-called conservatives who have sold the country out to that puff-headed worm in the White House are facing a firing squad, perhaps then they will be newsworthy. For now, they are scum that you would scrape off your shoe. They have one purpose in life: To serve the White House worm.
