The Many Potential Consequences Of A Delayed Census During Coronavirus | Talking Points Memo

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The U.S. Census Bureau needs more time to wrap up the once-a-decade count because of the coronavirus, opening the possibility of delays in drawing new legislative districts that could help determine what political party is in power, what laws pass or fail and whether communities of color get a voice in their states.

Maybe combine census with contact tracing?

With the U.S. so politically polarized, redistricting plays a major role in whether Republicans or Democrats drive the agenda

Just like it was intend…Wait.

I did mine about a week ago too – online. I was so pleased to see there’s an option for that.

@tao

I read that they are thinking of diverting census workers to contact tracing. Ir would make a lot of sense. You need to scroll down for teh discussion, but here’s the gist:

The C.D.C. is also in discussions to divert 25,000 Census Bureau workers to do contact tracing in the coming weeks and months. The census workers, who had been hired to go door to door collecting household data for the 2020 census, would turn to contact tracing for perhaps two months, according to a federal official.

Hey now we’re talking about combining two processes to be performed at the same time. Don’t forget it’s Republicans that are running/ruining this show, and you damn well know that they can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

The implication that the census may be delayed is rattling with in it self, but completing the forms at this time with everyone being told to stay home gives and excuse to no one IMHO.Plus the form is not intrusive.

It took me less than 5 minutes and was super easy.

I did mine online about a month or so ago. I’ve gotten three more questionaires in the mail since.

We can see the significance of distorting reported information from state to state. Looking at the top 10 blue states in terms of reported COVID-19-related deaths per million and the top 10 red states, we see the remarkable preference of the coronavirus for being a cause of death in blue states. The next step is to compare all death per million across states, but that data isn’t available yet. This would give some idea of the extent of this “Belarus” phenomenon.

Don’t know where are getting your data, but

Why? We have unemployed folks coming out the whazoo – contact tracing would be a way to put some of those who now have no other source of income on a payroll.
At this point, there’s no absolute need to delay the census; although, door to door has become problematic.

Looking at deaths per million of population, not the absolute numbers. Data from a couple hours back on worldometers.

Thanks for explaining.

I filled out ours at least 3 weeks ago online.

They sure get specific about your background on this version. I asked my husband what he wanted me to put down and he said: “handsome” and I did. I said: English, Irish, Scot, handsome.

That’s so that Miller knows who to strip citizenship from in the next round of the purge.

Yeah they got cute. There are two whole pages of information about any Hispanic background and then if you put down caucasian they want specifics like everybody has taken a DNA test.

Hey, video media. I’m looking at you CNN and MSNBC and CBS and ABC and local affiliates.

Do you value your reporters? I see you give them masks. That’s good. But do you think about their career well-being too?

When they’re giving their reports, why not kill the map or PowerPoint crap, or whatever junk you edge into their screen? Insert a picture of their unmasked face so the audience can associate them with a real human being and distinguish them from a production prop.

Gain value, and ratings will follow. Honor them.
