In one case, ICE agents surrounded a driver stopped in Chicago, and when the driver refused to show ID, an Enforcement and Removal Operations agent seized his phone and scanned his face for identification.
“I’m an American citizen, so leave me alone,” the driver protested. Officers replied, “Alright, we just got to verify that. If you could take your hat off, it would be a lot quicker. I’m going to run your information.”

Executives at CBS Entertainment, Paramount+, MTV, BET and more have been hit in Paramount’s latest round of layoffs, TheWrap has learned.
Additionally, CBS News’ streaming companion shows to “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Evening News” have both been canceled and its race and culture unit has been disbanded, though that unit’s head Alvin Patrick remains on staff. CBS News will also close its Johannesburg bureau.

According to the report, Major General Ronald Burkett, director of operations for the Pentagon’s National Guard bureau, signed the order on October 8, which would allow training of around 23,500 troops across the country in methods involving body shields and batons, as well as pepper spray and tasers.
A top U.S. military official has ordered the Guards of all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories to form “quick reaction forces” trained in “riot control,” including the use of batons, body shields, tasers and pepper spray, according to an internal Pentagon directive reviewed by The Guardian.

He talks about the minimal spikes at the Bronze level - that almost no one uses because it doesn’t cover anything or has insane deductibles and ignores the massive increases in the Silver level - where the support was given.

Chocolate candies are especially at risk of higher prices because of a years-long cocoa shortage that has caused the price of cocoa to triple over the last few years. Climate-related rain and damage to cocoa crops in west Africa – the biggest exporter of cocoa beans – have caused cocoa to peak at more than $12,000 per ton in 2024. Though prices have since gone down to about $6,000 per ton, they are still much higher than prices seen in 2020, when cocoa was $2,300 per ton.
“Our food system is really global,” said Alex Villacis, a food economist at the Ohio State University. “Something that is happening in west Africa will ultimately have an impact on your front porch this Halloween season.”
[And not just chocolate. Even without tariffs, coffee would be increasing in price as climate change slowly affects coffee growers.]

Speaking of Ozian stupidity. Those life-changing Continuous Glucose Monitors and insulin pumps? Why should people be able to choose the one that works best for the, with manufacturer support? No, let’s get rid of most of them. I mean, come on. what’s the big diff, right?
The elected officials point out in the letter that Oz’s agency, CMS, “proposes a new and untested payment model for CGMs [continuous glucose monitors] and durable insulin pumps while also proposing to include these devices in the competitive bidding program.”
Under the proposed rule, just a few suppliers nationwide would be involved, and they “would not be required to carry all types and combinations of CGMs and durable insulin pumps…which would push beneficiaries closer to a one size fits all model that would not meet their needs.”
Yes, one of those concerned is Susan Collins, who voted for Oz, but the bipartisan concerns are both House and Senate.
