The Legal Fight Against Trump's Library Of Congress Power Grab Begins

At least she stepped down from the Speakership. But how about a new, young and scrappy member of the house from San Francisco?

How do you suppose Hitler got all of those clean cut young soldiers to do horrible and despicable things to their fellow countrymen? If you tell young impressionable people that someone is the enemy and is subhuman over and over again something magical happens.

You know, I don’t think Trump is fully relying on the military to attack Americans in furtherance of his vicious fascism, at least not entirely. I think he (or his handlers like Stephen Miller) are using (and training) ICE for the initial terror. And it seems every small minded sadist in America works for or aspires to work for another small minded sadist known as Kristi Noem.

You should revisit that decision.
Nancy Pelosi is a seasoned professional who knows way more about politics than most folks, knows who’s who and what’s what, and was the most successful Speaker of the modern era.

Her views and opinions are always worth reading—even if you disagree—because of her vast store of institutional knowledge and experience.

Trump is an insanely easy mark for ruthless autocrats bearing bribes.

After carefully choosing and grooming her successor as House Democratic leader.
She chose wisely.

I think your criticism is appropriate but could have been phrased in a more constructive manner. Instead of focusing on Democrats, it would have been better if Kate had focused on the issue: the old guard refusing to train and promote the next generation of leadership and stepping down so they can exercise it.

There’s merit to both of your comments.

Small minded sadist is a good phrase. I have 4 people in my extended family who either work in border patrol or in the prison system and this phrase describes them perfectly. They are also completely in love with Trump.

Unfortunately, those lines of work attract people who have these feelings and opinions.

Pelosi did train/groom Hakeem Jeffries and stepped down from her leadership position when she was sure he would be promoted to that position. Can’t that transition be viewed as part of the Congressional Dems’ problem, that the older members with power tend to make way only for younger versions of themselves?

Agreed. She did what some of these others should have done. Train younger people and relinquish leadership positions.

It would have been better if Ms. Riga had bothered to identify the bipartisan nature of the issue instead of engaging in the usual ritual of bashing Democrats because no one else has any agency or responsibility for any of this.
I did what she was too sloppy to do.

The ageism around her is very disheartening. I keep reading assorted bullshit about getting rid of elected officials because they’re old—instead of getting rid of them because they’re ineffective or don’t know what they’re in DC to do.

Democrats have a deep bench of good young or youngish folks like the aforementioned Maxwell Frost and AOC, including Dan Goldman, Joe Neguse, Pete Buttigieg, Josh Stein, Josh Shapiro, Andy Kim, Gretchen Whitmer, and plenty more.
Those folks learned by example and by being guided by more senior Dems.

Remember, that classic experiment has shown that “small minded sadists” can be made, fairly easily, by their work conditions. The officer corps of the military doesn’t seem to be a great breeding ground, but ICE, with its masked seizures of people off the street, detention in sordid facilities, bustling off in transports shackled and bound, to parts unknown … yeah, that’s a good training ground, in my uneducated opinion.

That’s what I heard he did with his dad – gave him office space, had him “sign” contracts, but everything was routed back to the demon son.
