Hello it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender :coffee: Weeks have gone by since the Trump administration rushed three planeloads of deportees to an El Salvadorian labor camp. And yet, there are reams of basic questions about what happened to which we do not have answers. Take the question of the scope of the removals.…

all factors that incentivize it to keep on keepin’ on, even if its tactics have proved disastrously fallible.

What does this say about the leadership, they seem to still be stuck in the Obama era bullshit.

How about a prisoner exchange for Abrego? We’ll send them Cosplay Kristi to avoid contempt for all the clowns involved in this mess. Just be sure to have the cameras rolling for the scrum over the Rolex.

As I’ve said from Day One, no one is above the law,” Martin wrote. “This matter is currently under review by law enforcement authorities. If it is referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, we will follow the proper procedures to determine whether chargers are appropriate.”

These nitwits (including AG Blondi) should “tread carefully” themselves when messing with Representative Crockett. Unlike some of their other targets, she is not cowed by their bullshit.

Senate Republicans are plowing ahead with their plan to utilize an unprecedented “budget gimmick” to make portions of the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent.
Come on Democrats, take a page from their book, and make TAXES for the 1% permanent!

Why hasn’t the Senate Parliamentarian ruled that the budget ruse of accounting for no fiscal impact of 2017 tax cuts prohibit the use of reconciliation on the 2025 tax cut bill? That is a critical aspect of the reporting on this issue so if anyone has the answer on this please comment.

That and making it a fait accompli, difficult or ‘impossible’ to reverse. Cruelty is still the point but so also is dominance or at least the appearance of that; makes the base happy and opponents ineffectual.

Irony is dead with these kkklowns.

Trump Quietly Plans To Liquidate Public Lands To Finance His Sovereign Wealth Fund

ETA:

An SWF is a state-owned investment fund made up of money generated by the government, often derived from a nation’s natural resource revenues, budget surpluses, or foreign currency reserves. President Trump’s order charges the secretaries of the treasury and commerce departments with developing a plan for finding the money needed within 90 days of its signing. At the signing ceremony, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained where some of the money might come from: “We are going to monetize the asset side of the U.S. balance sheet for the American people. We are going to put the assets to work.”

What exactly does this mean? Doug Burgum, President Trump’s secretary of the interior, explained that the nation’s parks, public lands, and natural resources—including timber, fossil fuels, and minerals—are assets on “the nation’s balance sheet.” Burgum speculated in his confirmation hearing that federal lands could be worth as much as $200 trillion. He argued that the U.S. government, run like a business, should know the value of the corporation’s assets and use those assets “to get a return for the American people.”

What I’ve read is that Lindsay Graham found a way around the Parliamentarian - a cheat. This should bypass firewall.

Senate Republicans set to bypass parliamentarian on Trump tax cuts

Republicans are set to make the audacious play of bypassing the Senate parliamentarian and moving forward with a budget resolution based on a scoring baseline set by Budget Committee Chair Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) that would allow them to argue extending President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts won’t add to the deficit.

Senate Republicans are being careful to say they won’t “overrule” the parliamentarian — the Senate’s procedural umpire — but Democrats are already accusing them of going “nuclear” by flouting the Senate’s rules and precedents.

I think the issue in all of this is the surprise that the Trump Admin seems to be surprised that ‘other’ countries are not just complying with Trump’s pronouncements. Trump was PISSED that China announced ‘reciprocal tariffs’ when Trump announced Viet Nam had agreed to drop all tariffs or negotiate or something (very indistinct announcement imo); his people were SHOCKED that DJIA fell EIGHT PERCENT over two days. BUY BIG, BUY NOW. Fella, the DOLLAR is falling. Trump expected the dollar to strengthen as the ‘world currency,’ Golly the Trump people never talk to anybody who disagrees with them. At Trump’s Rose Garden announcement of Liberation Day the people in the audience were applauding and shouting their approval at every sentence. And the WHITE BOARD, And LAST NIGHT I found out Ron Vara, who writes SO APPROVINGLY of Peter Novarro’s tariff ideas – is actually an anagram for NOVARRO. Novarro equals Ron Vara. So Navarro promotes Vara and Vara promotes Navarro. A ‘mutual’ admiration society.

The GOP Senate leadership is NOT ‘applying’ to the Parliamentarian at all now because they know that they don’t HAVE to. The job has no power any longer.
