The road that led to Jimmy Carter is a curious one. Not the physical road — you flew into the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport and drove about an hour north to Plains, where he and his wife of nearly 77 years, Rosalynn, lived in the small, four-bedroom ranch house he built in 1960. But the path…
I admired him in and out of office.
An honest guy who rose to the top and that is exceedingly rare as most honest folk who get into politics have short careers
RIP, Jimmy Carter. A life of a servant well lived.
Jimmy Carter was the anti-Trump. WAY TOO good.
Hopefully Trump will be barred from the funeral.
Jimmy Carter is the favorite president of my mother, who was born in rural northern Alabama, the granddaughter of sharecroppers. She said he was the kindest, most decent of any in her lifetime. I concur with her assessment.
Those were my thoughts as well. Consequential even now with TCF eyeing the Panama Canal.
The first time they put an evangelical in office, and the response was - Too Christian! What we need is somebody kinda like this guy, but vain, corrupt to the bone, and dumb as a rock - Reagan!
The modern conservative movement at inception is a response to the Iran hostage crisis. The population rebelled against the government then. Inflection via Ruby Ridge, Waco, and bankrupt after McVeigh. Reborn after 9/11.
We The People in charge means exactly Mob Rule.
On another note, met the head of the Eastern seaboard division of Homes for Humanity while out drinking in Baltimore about 10 years ago. We bonded over rugby, and I told him and his protege then to get started on a history of the man.
Part of his ignominy is the fruit of a weaponized rural media. You got to fight those fucks in advance.
If there was ever a President that deserved to be nominated for sainthood, it would be Jimmy Carter.
There has never been a President so dedicated to helping others when he could have justifiably spent his later years stewing over the country he faithfully served labeling him as incompetent. His foundation was even on the verge of eliminating a disease which has only been known to happen once in human history.
Once again, history repeated itself with the people choosing a TV hungry idiot telling them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear.
My Republican father who was an engineer in a nuclear power plant highly respected Carters experience as a nuclear engineer and submarine commander. When Carter introduced the solar panel tax credit he immediately installed them on the roof of our house where they not only provided a more than adequate source of hot water but saved money. Unfortunately Carter didn’t sell the savings aspect of renewable energy well enough due to his Christian faith and setting an example by installing solar panels on the roof of the White House. He also didn’t figure in Americans nature of being too darn selfish. We all know what happened to those solar panels just a few years later during the backlash Reagan administration.
We have small solar panels that run our driveway lights, lights over doors and other things
To the last drop. God speed President Carter.
The power in America, at base, is oil money. They were at the heart of rubbishing his presidency.
He put solar panels on the roof, & Xerox Altos in the basement! A man ahead of his times.
He was my first presidential vote. I was a student at FSU when he was ‘Jimmy Who?’ Shook his hand at the Student Union.
I think folks forget that he came to the GA governorship in a repudiation of Lester Maddox. Along with Reuben Askew in FL, we were looking toward The New South! Sadly, that dream has died.
The first President I ever voted for, and just a great great man. The last decent human being to be POTUS until Obama. This is a sad day for me, he was just transformational.I just read the statement from Trump’s office, it wasn’t that bad. Which means tRump didn’t write it, that came from someone on staff.
It’s far better in my humble estimation to see Jimmy Carter’s face on TPM than some open mouth bellowing shot of trump.
Where did you find a decent comment from trump on Carter’s passing?
CNN : Trump says nation owes Jimmy Carter “a debt of gratitude”
From CNN’s Aaron Pellish
President-elect Donald Trump said the nation owes former President Jimmy Carter “a debt of gratitude” following the former president’s death on Sunday.
“I just heard of the news about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History,” Trump wrote in a social media post on Sunday.
“The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude,” he continued. “Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers
Sounds like somebody’s just itchin’ for a funeral invite …
No way the Orange Idiot wrote that, it’s from someone on his staff
