Sadly, I think the large majority of those who watch the hearings are not having their attitudes changed, they are simply becoming more outraged. The people who need to have their attitudes changed will not bother to watch the hearings, because Trump told them it is bullshit.
It’s not a binary division. There are voters who can be swayed, even if it is only “swayed to stay home.” That’s still good.
I’d love to think so, but unless and until they come up with incontrovertible evidence of the elected GQP reps and Senators (especially those up for re-election) of their involvement in J6, I don’t think the impact at the ballot box is going to be all that high.
I know the media are kind of ignoring the impact, as no one is ever going to a diner in central PA to ask if anyone’s watched the hearings. [/s] [or is it?]
They are waiting for the My Pillow fraudster to bring forth his election fraud evidence. He has it, you know, except the Deep State is preventing him from putting it out there.
I think that it’s fair to point out here that polling can rarely pick up on a point as subtle as “are you starting to question your convictions?” People are usually quite shy to admit out loud they’ve been wrong about something but, once they’ve begun to doubt their beliefs, it can affect their behavior long before it affects what they’re willing to say even in an anonymous poll.
For example, people who have started to doubt whether Trump has been telling the truth might still say with an apparent conviction that they think the election was stollen but, when it comes time to vote, their doubts might cause them to either stay home or vote differently than they once intended.
I’d also like to point out that fivethirtyeight is giving roughly the same odds for the Democrats to keep the House as they gave Trump of winning in 2016 so, who knows?
This is good news. It means people are persuadable. There will always be the hard core deplorables.
This is also a sign for the Dems on how they can get busy to make their points. The committee has had a much better handle on what makes good theater than most Dem campaigns. My hope is that the campaigners figure out how to do more of it going forward.
The one thing I’ll never get about these DeepStatesters is that not one of them, from Donnie down to some rando frother on a soapbox, seems to seriously believe and take precautions against this pernicious conspiracy reducing their headaches by quietly putting these critics out of the their misery.
This is a great time to place the Jan 6 Committee Front and Center. We are at the time for maximum effect.
… … … … … …
In a good way I hope. Meaning sanity should prevail. That leaves a majority of the GOP out.
I hope the committee won’t be going after small fry this time.
Sadly, the two brave repubs who were on the 1/6 committee will no longer have careers in politics, Cheney and Kinzinger. Good for the republic but bad for partisanship. It didn’t used to be this way. In the past repubs successfully went after Nixon, he was forced to resign, and we’ll never see those days again.
No, we won’t. We have to deal with the battle space as it is.
This remains to be seen. Cheney, for one, always seems to have her eye on the big picture. I am not sure we will enjoy her resurgence when it happens.

What we need is a drastic lessening of Trumpism, Post Truth, and Fascism
The only power the people have is by and through a representative Government. The best point in time was to have made our move at the 2016 Dem Convention and united behind ONE nominee.
Trumpism, Post Truth and Fascism have done some serious damage.
You’re talking the Trumpism trio, not the TPM users - there were three of them, also… LOL!!!
Corrected. Thanks
Also, the Porcine 101st Air Squadron was seen over 'merica.
I think the best we can hope for is that the J6 committee persuades enough GQP loons to stay home and not vote so the election deniers can’t get enough leverage to throw the 2024 electoral college to TMFWWNBN. Preaching to the choir, I know, but thats why 2022 is so critical.
The other story about the GQP not voting early is good, that should reduce their turnout at least a little - if they get busy, held up at work, line is too long, etc, it might lower their vote a bit.
I always go back to this country’s decision to reject HRC in favor of djt. She warned us countless times, we know she was right, but things got in the way, including Bill’s sins, “lock her up!” chants at trumpet rallies and the ever present Electoral College which drags us back to the 18th century every four years.
She is not beloved in WY so she must have presidential aspirations, also a folly, she wouldn’t be appointed to anything by a repub prez, so what is in practical terms available to her?
Excellent post and also a really good article.
Every vote, and non vote for that matter, matters.
All I would add to this post is in addition to swaying voters to include some (Rs) staying at home, it could also sway some (Ds) to vote. That is to Republicans all elections are base elections. What Democrats never seem to grasp is that midterms are especially base elections and if Democrats can get Democrats to show up, they will win.
