‘Surely illegal’: Paul Krugman pulls the lid off Trump’s new economic scheme

Oh please, people, just quit. Just quit, please. If Trump does it it’s legal. At a minimum WHATEVER he does won’t be deemed as illegal in the end. Garland and his DOJ let him walk. State cases are going to all collapse. And you think when he controls HIS DOJ he will finally be held to account?

Morning Memo: The Hard Truth Is That Donald Trump Got Away With A Violent Insurrection

To which I reply with the same high moral dudgeon as Laura Bush summoned while addressing the 2000 RNC (it was their obsession with Bill Clinton’s gigantic enormous dick) “What will we tell the children?”

What I’ve been ruminating on with the second election of Trump for POTUS is that this time, as I’ve been saying, he knows how to work the system better now than in his first term.
But what I don’t think DonOLD appreciates is that members of the Senate tend to have their own aspirations to the Oval Office. He’s not going to find his Senate majority willing to go along with having their voices silenced, or to be lap dogs.
Power is a damn addictive drug, and there will be younger Cassi willing to go along for only so long.

What is required now is the difficult, long-term, low-odds challenge of reimagining a constitutional order that functions as the founders intended

Again, I await his mortal demise, hopefully on jan 20 as he strokes out and face-plants into Major’s freshly laid pyramid on the Whitehouse lawn.

Seems a whole lot in the Senate and House are falling over themselves to kiss donnie’s private parts and coo about how great he is.
They do this to sray in office because as you say…power is addictive

I think I’m safe in saying:
Smiling faces sometimes
Pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces
Of the evil that lurks within (can you dig it?)
Smiling faces, smiling faces, sometimes
They don’t tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof
Oh, oh, yeah

Re the corruption, self-dealing, and “screw-you” to the rule of law …

I don’t see what the problem is. Russia and China have survived for hundreds of years as nation-states, and they’ve only had a few revolutions, purges, population-depleting famines, and chaotic eras. How bad could it be?

The United States will soon begin its long descent to the bottom. Metaphor anyone?

A 25% tafiff on everything exported from Canada as the first volley in the Trump trade war on the world. Need a new bingo card.

The US is Canada’s largest trading partner, with exports of US$438B in 2022. The alleged travesties wrought by Canada: some sort of flood of illegal immigrants and fentanyl. By the numbers:

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), border patrol officers had 23,721 “encounters” with people along the Canadian border last year – this refers to the number of times they stopped people trying to cross the border without going through an official crossing.

That number was a sharp increase from 10,021 the year before and 2,238 the year before that. But it is small over all: by comparison, border patrol had 1,530,523 such encounters at the Mexican border last year, meaning the total number of unauthorized crossings of the U.S. border from Canada was less than 2 per cent of the number coming from Mexico.

Similarly, U.S. customs agents seized 43 pounds of fentanyl at the Canadian border last year. This represented less than 0.2 per cent of the total 21,900 pounds intercepted across the U.S.

Oh, and Mexico too. Canada and Mexico are parties to the Trump NAFTA (USMCA) ‘free’ trade agreement… an agreement that provides for the free flow of goods between the three countries and dates back to the Canada/US auto pact (1965) and was expanded to include Mexico in 1994. Six dimensional chess going on there.

Neither do I. Unfortunately, he was not charged as such as the constitutional definition of treason includes the nation actively at war, so as he was at war with this nation it doesn’t count. America had not declared war against itself … based on history that necessitates seceding from the nation.

This outcome has me incensed.
