GOP lawmakers in Alabama have jammed through another congressional map with a single majority Black district in defiance of the recent Suprme Court ruling.
What enforcement mechanism does SCOTUS have if Alabama simply proceeds with establishing their new electoral maps and conducts their elections using them? Can SCOTUS actually stop the conduct of elections in a state, some sort of inunction until their ruling is instituted? Who enforces the injunction? Feds? State police? What if the state police refuse, and the state courts? And the Feds intervene, but Alabama says “Hey, we’re only using these disputed maps for state elections, you have no standing to come in here and interfere.”
Seems Alabama could makes things very messy if they don’t back down.
