Getting tons of kids sick is a great way to win back the suburbs. Sheer political genius, these guys.

And DeSantis, who denies knowing that extra ventilators have been shipped to his state, had this to say, “I’m personally in contact with CEOs of a lot of the major hospitals…”

Right. Because talking to CEOs is SO much better than talking with actual citizens and staff and emergency responders.

This is rock-solid stupid thinking.

COVID cases in FL and TX can have a spillover effect in surrounding states and the nation as a whole. But in the main it will be residents of those sates that suffer the consequences of the inaction by their Governors DeSantis and Abbott. And those citizens did freely elect them to those offices, no? And they will likely reelect them.

Here in Kansas Governor Kelly has recommended that all students and teachers wear masks, while some of the Kansas City school districts have mandated it. I expect the already rising number of cases to skyrocket as most people here don’t wear masks.

I’d always referred to the schools (worked there) as virus factories long before covid came along.

My name is Ron Desantis and I want to kill your kids.
My name is Matt Gaetz and I want to ……

Was thinking about this yesterday, and someone else here mentioned the possibility of a grieving parent opting for a second amendment solution.

Republicans only need 51% of those parents to think the sacrifice of their children is for the greater good…and freedom…and in the service of the great GodTrump.

It’s not a stretch to posit half of FL and TX parents are just that deluded, insane and mired in the conspiracy rabbit holes that abound.

My man, please take note of the voting trends of the suburbs and contemplate how this get-the-kids-sick strategy is going to reverse it. Thank you.

ETA: And that’s from butthole nowhere Alabama in late 2015, IIRC. I’m not talking about fucking Alabama.

And after all is said and done, both Abbott and DeSantis will be easily re-elected. This is all about the base and the primary election. They know full well after the 2020 results that the Democratically inclined voters in both of these states are too apathetic to get off their asses and do anything about it.
Or if, perchance, they actually lost, they’ll just override the election results anyway.

Since it is well known that youth lean liberal, they are just trying to get ahead of the curve. They have still not accepted that old people die of natural causes yet.

Multiple states have Governors that are refusing to enroll in the ACA insurance program, denying medical coverage to parents, AND THEIR CHILDREN, yet get elected and reelected, and their citizenry loves them. You’re saying a parent would hold it against a Governor for not protecting them against COVID, yet give them a pass for denying those same children medical insurance?‘’

Nah, if they’ll forgive the latter they’ll forgive the former.

The anti-vaxxers can imagine some medical harm from the vaccine.
What potential harm can the anti-maskers claim? DeSantis says he wants to “see the children’s smiles” - that’s it? It’s pure politics.

I guess the next elections in FL, TX and elsewhere will tell the tale. Should DeSantis and Abbott be returned to office the importance of suburban voters and their ability to affect the outcome is maybe not a high as you estimate. Or they might lose and my view is rendered erroneous.

Certainly, these fucktards deserve the malfeasance they’ve endorsed. But the rest of us, those generally trying to “do the right thing,” don’t deserve this. I’m willing to pack up and GTFO of Texas if we can get the secession thing rolling again.

Dutifully performing as the ALEC-programmed robotic-assh^le he is.

I would also posit that it’s not “51% of those parents” we really have to worry about. There are vast quantities of elderly conservatives in TX and FL that still think they are voting for Nixon type Republicans as well as empty-nesters that don’t give a crap about their kids in the same way that parents of the young do. The cultish, willful intellectual disconnect by most of the right is the cancer we battle.

An old credo a good friend has long-held:
“All sickness travels-- in little kids snot.”

Texas AG Paxton is under criminal investigation, and yet Texans keep re-electing him. Because he is the kind of SOB that they like, one that eager to inflict pain on the segments of population that they hate.
