The Five Biggest Ways Trump Has Dismantled Environmental Protections This Summer

When Scott Pruitt was ousted from the Environmental Protection Agency last summer, environmentalists collectively held their breath as Trump mused over who his replacement nominee might be.

Though I know this is all about domestic policy (and good to see it here too!), I’d add to the list Trump’s cozy relationship with Bolsonaro. Up next: a high five for the burning forests in Indonesia. Hey, they’ve got to get the land clear and open for business, right? So things got a little out of hand. People need to make a living.

Setting policy by tweets is all we’re ever going to get from 45, but here are his latest moves. He sent out three moronic tweets while he was campaigning here predicting CA’s down fall if we didn’t comply. As if.

There is another one missing from this list - the “Administration” is dismantling NEPA.

When enacting “Federal Actions” (public land management plans, oil and gas leasing, policy changes such as the e-bike requirement), federal agencies are no longer applying the scrutiny that’s required under federal law. Public input is either not being taken or is being given such short timeframes that it may as well be non-existent. NEPA was enacted during Nixon’s tenure and making it toothless will take us back to the days when the impact of federal actions on the public and natural resources were ignored.

Domestic that has international repercussions, I’m waiting to see when a nation to our East sues. I know when I lived in Seattle, for example, it was not unheard of to get smog coming in from Japan.

Hey, Nicole! Methane is not nearly the most potent greenhouse gas. Methane has a GWP (multiple of carbon dioxide’s impact) of 72 after 20 years and 25 after 100 years. Sulfur hexafluoride has a GWP of 16,300@20 & 22,800@100.

So if your car does not pollute enough …Trump will decide that you will have to have it re-tuned to make sure it emits more carbon monoxide and particulates?

RIP, state’s rights.

Trump proves (again) that he’s not conservative, and that liberals are right — Southern states must obey our federal government.

Thanks, Donald! Keep destroying conservatism.

I truly believe that Donald Trump has earned the distinction to be called “The Pollution President”.

Two things:

  1. When a Dem wins the next election - the next day he/she should announce that all the damage Trump has done will be undone ASAP.

  2. If any of our car makers take these bastards up on limiting CAFE standards, they are signing their own death warrants. The rest of the planet is not run by a bunch of bumpkin Reich-wingers and is advancing on better efficiency. In a short period of going backwards, they will eliminate themselves from the entire world market.

He sure is making a lot of money for lawyers. It will be terrible sad to see his right-wing judges making decisions taht claim the feds are pre-eminent in everything, and then turning around and reversing their reasoning once a democrat is in office.

Trump, Wheeler, Pruitt, and anyone else responsible for reducing and/or repealing clean air, clean water and other environmental standards and regulations should be charged with conspiracy to commit murder. These actions exhibit a reckless disregard for human life that will result in thousands, and ultimately millions of needless deaths.

Looks like this is setting up nicely for a big Warren win!

As far as California emission standards go: good luck with that, assholes.

North Dakota hit an all time production record of slightly over 1.4 million bpd.
They also hit some highs for natural gas flaring:

In July, North Dakota operators captured 77% of natural gas, flaring the remaining 23%. During the previous month, flaring hit 24%, one of the highest marks in recent years.

North Dakota has been well below its gas capture goal of 88% (12% flaring) for many months. The state’s ability to process gas has not kept up with rising production.

Andrew Wheeler in a speech to the National Automobile Dealers Association:

We embrace federalism and the role of the states, but federalism does not mean that one state can dictate standards for the nation.

California is dictating standards for the state of CA. That other states and car manufacturers agree with those standards is not federalism.
