Sidney Blumenthal says Iran is a “quagmire.” Trump lives in a delusional world amused by the performative macho-man Hegseth and others, seemingly unaware of the damage to the global economy.
So why doesn’t Trump immediately announce victory and go home? Israel is estimated to have 90 nukes that it would use on “enemy capitals” should it become cornered in an existential conflict (Samson Option). The longer this goes on, the more likely Israel gets cornered. Moreover, Netanyahu has already gotten his main ask, the decapitation of Iran’s leadership, as well as a weakened Iran, neither of which necessarily serve the long-tern interests of the US. This is worrisome.
