A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. The March Toward Extremism Continues As I explain below, today is shaping up to be another long day for President Biden and the White House as they attempt to ride out the chorus of calls…

Another day…I don’t know if I can take much more of this. We need a decision.

I am starting to actually worry a bit here. This should have been trivially resolved. Biden can get on any talk show at any time and could have picked one on Sunday and just gone with the “Man that was bad. My apologies, I need to take a break from my day job and prepare better next time. Now let’s talk about all the great things the IRA is doing for America” or something similar.

The fact that we’re still talking about this two weeks later leads me to conclude that either a) there really are serious cognitive issues, or b) he has the worst imaginable campaign staff. Neither of which are very comforting.

Not sure how much of a diff it will make as I think Biden is old and Trump is a lunatic are pretty baked in with the respective bases.

Well, at least the rudy news seems to be a positive.

Tough shit. That’s the job. If he can’t handle the job, he needs to bow out.

Republicans get into ‘tussle’ over release of Biden impeachment report

House Republicans won’t let Rep. James Comer (R-KY) release a 400-page impeach inquiry report on President Joe Biden that has left him political limbo, a new report claims.

The House Oversight Committee chair is reportedly “eager” to show the nation this week a report that fellow Republicans admit is unlikely to result in any impeachment effort, Punchbowl News reported Thursday.

But he faced serious pushback from conservatives who don’t want waste ammunition on a target already under fire.

“Let the Democrats keep shooting each other,” added Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) told Punchbowl News. “That’s my advice."

The inaction leaves Comer stuck the results of an investigation that never uncovered a smoking gun, the outlet reports.

Exactly. I wish he could get away with a Rose Garden strategy. He can’t. Especially now.

(Here through the back door again. C’mon, TPM, fix the comment link up front.)

It would seem that the Dems were hoping it would go away. This is not looking good at all.

Good news from @leftcoaster in another thread. Click on the image link showing inflation subsiding.

It won’t go away as long as (e.g.) neither the NYT nor WaPo covers events like the NATO summit, to the degree each covers them at all, almost exclusively as a test of Biden’s mental acuity. Nor do they cover Harris’ many campaign events, at least in a way that anyone would notice. I’ve taken to watching MSNBC shows like Lawrence O’Donnell just to get news about Harris.

I had to come in through the bathroom window, too. But at least I didn’t steal clothes and memorabilia…

To quote the fella under scrutiny, “C’mon man.”

Personally, I think the media landscape is worse than ever. They’re amplifying every Biden problem while completely overlooking similar problems with DT, not to mention basically keeping a lid on new DT/Epstein revelations.

Having said that, the lying rapist convicted felon appears to be teflon anyway, so I doubt the Epstein info would make a dent. Biden’s problems are also baked in, but baked in is not a good position to be in when you’re down in the polls. The debate was supposed to get us past the “age” issue. I guess today’s press conference is the next chance, but I’m having a hard time imagining the press changing their view unless he suddenly appears to be much more like 2020 Joe.

Another little thought experiment: DT has shown even the most cynical court watchers that legal delays can be a huge advantage to fascists. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised for the states targeted by Heritage, plus some other states, decide the lawsuits “prevent” them from putting a replacement candidate (probably Harris) on the ballot, even if the new nomination is done at the virtual count before the convention. Sure, the courts will probably rule that the state has to include her, but if the state ignores the ruling, then what? Ohio in particular already has a history of ignoring court rulings on gerrymandering and school funding.

Although I would really like to see Harris replace Biden, this would be my biggest fear about that.

What are the new DT/Epstein revelations? Just saw a headline at the WP claiming to be a fact-check to reveal that there isn’t a DT/Epstein revelation. I would very much like there to be.

And yet they have declared Joe is too old. The NYT really needs to make up its mind.

Thanks. I just saw Kessler’s fact check. That would be disappointing if I didn’t already think it won’t make any difference anyway.
