Let it be done.

So: Uncertainty is no longer quite so high. Biden has the largest lead at this point of any candidate since 1996.

Historic versus Hysterics? What a refreshing change…

North and South California (if it’s good enough for the Dakotas, why not sane apportionment for CA).

You mean, stop with the interminable neoliberalism incrementalism and go whole hog on deeply progressive transformative policies and ideals for a change? Now that truly is refreshing news! Be careful, or next thing you know - shudder - we’ll be advocating for cracking down on Wall Street, eliminating dark money in politics, and Medicare For All!

East and West Rhode Island?

You can play hopscotch from one to the other.

Alternatively, make one state of “Dakota.” That immediately eliminates at least two (probable) GOP Senators. I wonder if this is possible.

DC and Puerto Rico statehood is more likely.

I’m good with that, too.

Go win first. Then do what you have to do. This ‘structural change’ stuff is bad political framing that we don’t need.

They aren’t facing a historic opportunity, they are a facing a historic imperative for structural change.

Possible, yes, probable, no way.

“. . . no new states shall be formed . . . by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress.”

The only state that can subdivide is Texas, which is capped at 5. The Rs would gerrymander that in 4R and 1D leaning states
Two or three subdivisions seems more practical…

Can we win the election first? Trump is capable of all kinds of fuckery wrt the election.

I’m not sure how we’re supposed to win a referendum election if we’re not promising to fix the things Trump broke.

Calling for ‘structural change’ is how Democrats show the voters that it won’t be the Trump status quo if they get elected. Saying you plan on making changes when >60% says that country is on the wrong track is a winning electoral strategy.

Democrats always want to make changes by consensus and republicans have been showing us how they prefer to make changes is by decree. Since they have rammed through so many horrible decrees, maybe we should try their own tactics and see how that goes.

There are some commonsense limits to that idea, we don’t want the pendulum to immediately swing back to where it has been.

First they destroyed education, now they just manipulate an uneducated population. A lot of think tanks went into getting us to this point. There is much to do to get us just back to where we were, far more to make a difference. Good thing we have so many people ready to get started.
