Much of the data was submitted electronically. Missing data can be requested. It might be delayed a week or two, but there’s no reason the majority of the data - jobs, CPI, inflation can’t be released. If it isn’t, the fingers are already pointing back that White House hiding the bad numbers

I don’t think they’re doing the right thing. What they’re doing is appeasing the segment of the MAGA base that believes there is damaging info about Democrats hidden in the files.
They may actually believe it themselves. Boebert for one is stupid enough to believe anything. But it’s mostly just a performative vote for their political base. And a painless one at that, because the files will never be released. The Senate won’t vote for it, and even if they did, there aren’t enough votes in Congress to override a Trump veto.
This is why there will probably be a few more R votes to release the files than signed the discharge petition. It’s a freebie to appease the MAGA base.
