The Authoritarianism Will Be Televised

Hello, it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender :hot_beverage: In the 48 hours since ICE officer Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, the Trump administration has concocted a few justifications: she was trying to run the agents over, she’s a “domestic terrorist,” part of a “lunatic fringe,” that the poor, innocent…

What we need are funerals and perp walks. Mostly perp walks, can’t let the fuckers get away with it.

I agree. Moving forward can’t happen without justice.

But over the past year, these recordings have been indispensable in fighting the furious torrent of lies and propaganda the administration spews every time its ill-trained agents hurt and kill people.

I just learned about this murder of an American citizen on New Year’s Eve in California by an off-duty ICE agent. I doubt I am the only person who missed it and it should be in the mix.

I learned about it from a Mastodon post complaining that his family’s GoFundMe was drastically underfunded compared to Renee Good’s. It has now surpassed its initial target.

The injustice of the American public only achieving critical mass when confronted with suffering of white people is real and true; unfortunately, loud messaging about that fact can work against improving the situation. I’ve got no solutions but some comment seemed necessary. I’m not going to add to this.

A New Clip of the Minneapolis ICE Killing Was Leaked to a Site Sympathetic to Derek Chauvin – Mother Jones

A video reportedly filmed by the federal agent who shot and killed Renée Nicole Good in Minneapolis earlier this week was released on Friday by a conservative Minnesota outlet whose most prominent reporter is married to the city’s former police union head.

Alpha News—notable in part for its sympathetic coverage of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer convicted in 2021 of murdering George Floyd—has since Wednesday published a flurry of articles including “ICE shooting in Minneapolis: Minnesota attorney explains how presumed innocence has been ignored again” and “REPORT: Woman killed by ICE agent was member of ‘ICE Watch’ group working to disrupt immigration arrests.”

Asked if he had a message for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz or Trump, Ventura criticized the president.

“Who is that? You mean the draft dodging coward? I don’t call him by name,” Ventura told reporters outside Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. “He’s the draft dodging coward, who when it was his time to serve his country, he did what all rich white boys did. I wasn’t a rich white boy. I grew up in south Minneapolis. Most of me and all my friends are Vietnam veterans.
“We had to go,” Ventura continued. “But the rich white boys never had to go, did they? And he didn’t have to go, did he? And yet he’s gonna tell me what courage is?”

Ventura condemned Good’s killing, which he characterized as murder. ICE maintained the agent shot Good in self-defense.

“Freedom is not arresting people without warrants. We have a system here. It’s called a Constitution, and we have a party – the Republicans – who don’t seem to want to abide by the Constitution. Jan. 6 is a prime example of that. And now [Jan. 6 defendants are] all free and they’re in charge,“ Ventura said.

Clearly, we need to salt the streets and clean it off. (ed.)

After learning about the shooter’s video, all I will say is: tax the billionaires to fund the Nuremberg Trials.

Indeed, someone does.

I still want to know why the murderer in Minneapolis hasn’t been arrested yet.

Had this been a civilian, the shooter might already be dead or at least incarcerated.

One of Ross’ pals removing Ross’s desktop computer (shaped liked an ammo box?). They took his lap top too. Ross has some serious porn and abuse and Nazi shit on those. Count on it.
