Originally published at: ‘That’s Enough To Call Up The National Guard?’ Trump-Appointed Judge Skeptical Of Portland Occupation - TPM – Talking Points Memo
U.S District Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee, was brimming with skepticism Friday as she pressed on the administration’s rationale for its imminent deployment of the National Guard to Portland. She was particularly stuck on the government’s struggle to identify recent events outside an ICE facility in the city to justify the occupation, as the…
“I’m not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it.”

Did I read this right. The Trump administration got the initial judge to recuse himself because his wife is a Democratic Congressmember, and was able to get a Trump appointee to take the case but the Trump appointee is asking very serious questions about the existence of a real emergency in Portland since nothing has happened since June or July and the police handled the problems well then? Moreover Trump wants to deploy the national guard but the Governor doesn’t which raises serious states rights questions. Trump can’t win for losing. My guess Trump or one of his henchmen is going to talk some of his oath keepers into starting a riot at the Portland ICE facility.
I live in Portland. This invocation of some sort of anarchic doomsday here so ludicrous it makes my head want to explode. Every night at the ICE gulag that’s tucked into a residential neighborhood there are a dozen randos, a guy in a chicken costume, maybe a tv crew or two, and a slew of belligerent ICE goons looking to provoke trouble. There’s more anarchy at your average 5-year-old’s birthday party.
Judge Simon agreed to recuse because of an apparent conflict around his politician wife’s stated views.
Judge Immergut was randomly assigned in the district.
She is the Trump appointee currently overseeing the case.
But have you ever stopped to ask, “How do chickens feel about the costume?” That’s when you realize that not all insurrections require actual armed conflict, some just are insurrections of the soul, brought on by insensitive speciesism.
Judge: “Is there any proof of an incident in the last two months that could not easily be handled by law enforcement?”
DoJ: “The chicken guy is kinda freaking us out. Not gonna lie.”
Judge: …
DoJ: “It’s a hen, but there is a guy in the suit. It’s a trans chicken. Think of the children.”
Judge: [Take me now Jesus]
This is how judges and other folks in positions of authority should have been responding to the First Felon since January 20, 2017. I’ve been increasingly rage-filled that everyone just took (then-)tweets as the same thing as Executive Orders, and now taking EOs as de facto laws and amendments to the Constitution.
You don’t DO that! But the US did. And look where we are now. It’s going to take a whole lot of standing up and refusing now, in order to stop the crazy train. The incalculable damage already done and in process will take decades for us to deal with.
We now know that plants do communicate among themselves. They respond to stimuli – that is, feel. That potato in your bin is more alive than that chicken breast in your fridge: the potato will spring to life and grow, given the environment. But the chickie breast can do nothing other than rot.
So what’s the rationale for raising plants for slaughter? Chopping them up? Cooking** them?** Huh?

Jeebus, that’s Pythonian, Blackadderian, something. Kudos!
“Really? A social media post is going to count as a presidential determination that you can send the National Guard into cities? Is that really what I should be relying on as a determination?” she asked.
Yes.
And, if the Donald J Trump account posts a command on a social network, believe it authentic from the President himself. After all, every social network is now secured by the best technology foreign countries and college dropouts have to give.
So, just like Justice Thomas recusing himself because of Ginni’s stated opinions and political actions.
Potatoes are evil.
This is a case where being an ethical vegetarian, I have no qualms at all.
Purple cauliflower is a source of great anxiety for me, though.
