Thanksgiving Weekend Liveblog - TPM – Talking Points Memo

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving! The new special counsel for the now-candidate Trump’s various legal issues, Jack Smith, is apparently hard at work through the Thanksgiving break — and so, today, we are too.

It was a foggy day in Toronto yesterday.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!

Years ago Mrs. Cargo and I spent Thanksgiving Day in Toronto. We went to the ROM, the zoo, and had dinner in an Istrian restaurant. It was much easier than hosting dinner for ~10+ family and friends, as we have done every year since.

Ye should never have grabbed that last piece of chocolate cake.

The 2023 calendar is conspiring against me, but I hope modern Republicans solve their Trump problem.

We do not have cable or TV. We have the internet and a computer I can shut off. We read but minimize what we see and especially what we choose to hear. Freedom’s just another word for choice.

I hope this guy solves it for them; and sucks in a whole bunch of his cohorts as well.

The more the Rule of Law becomes the narrative, the better off we will be.

That’s a plan, but like with Mueller, Americans need to stop believing in political deux ex machina.

Ye tweeted about meeting with former President Trump — who just announced his 2024 bid — to be his running mate

I assumed this meant Trump/West, but when I follow the link it turns out the proposal was West/Trump.

For some reason, the midterms don’t seem to have made a dent in these guys’ perceptions that the country needs more Celebrity Fascist Billionares to vote for. If we can’t have West/Trump, maybe we can get Thiel/Schwarzman or at least Musk/Zuckerberg. They can spend enormous amounts of money in the GOP primaries, emptying all their coffers in the leadup to the general.

Kanye’s West’s 2020 candidacy was clearly engineered by both fringe and not-so fringe Republican operatives to peel off some of what is normally the black Democratic vote. (Didn’t work, although the GOP always deludes itself to think that it does, which of course requires an underestimation of the black electorate, which is not surprising given the GOP’s racism).

I’m beginning to think, though, that if he’s nuts enough to go through with this in 2024, it will actually peel off some of the MAGA vote from any Republican presidential candidate who is not Trump. There are just too many alt-right operatives around him.

After all, in view of Herschel Walker, MTG, and others, it appears that brain-damaged candidates are all the rage on the right wing.

I get your point, but I don’t see the application of justice as political. Without the rule of law, we are living in anarchy.

One thing I won’t be doing over the coming year is following the adventures of the special counsel the way I followed Mueller. I have become superstitious and I believe if I pay no attention to any of this that I will just be pleasantly surprised if and when Floriduh Man gets indicted.

It’s kind of like believing your sports team does better when you are not watching them.

It’s the idea that Americans keep expecting Bunyan like things from prosecution (including Barr) and when it doesn’t happen, an important % act like children.

So Ye wants Trump to be HIS vice presidential candidate. Hahahahaha. Two narcissists vying for supremacy. What could go wrong?
