Iâm not an economist, by any measure. But Capitalism depends primarily on competition. In a world-wide economic slowdown (which is the effect of the coronavirus), the playing field is, to some extent, leveled.

Donât even get me started. The rank hypocrisy and narcissism on display here is revolting. This from a party that doesnât give a shit about global warming â i.e. the literal, increasingly unstable and dangerous world their children will directly inherit. This isnât about the kids. This is about a group of people who, facing their 70s, would rather go to brunch with a full 401k and die happy (albeit at great expense and once again stealing resources from other people) than live with a fear of mortality at home. And while one can sympathize with that simpering anxiety, dressing it up as âcaring about the kidsâ when you so clearly DONâT is absolutely infuriating. Care about the kids? Invest in salary replacement (like the UK is) and good medical care; use social distancing to keep yourself off a fâking ventilator so that said kids donât have to worry about you in the hospital. Save the social fabric, use science based approaches to temper the epidemic, protect our hospitals and their actual heroes, and lay the ground work for real future. Donât take the easy way out â or play Russian roulette â and dress it up as your own glorious greatest generation sacrifice. Oh my god, I canât even. Disgusting.
