All unlawful guns were once lawfully purchased, with the small exception of homemade firearms. I repeat, all unlawful guns were once lawfully purchased. If we really do have a problem with illegal guns in this country, then we have a problem with gun theft and accountability. If I purchase a firearm, that firearm is stolen, and then it is used in a crime, I am not liable. I should be.
