Don’t mess with Texas — even in the midst of surging COVID cases.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Monday said he won’t budge on his vehement opposition to implementing stricter COVID-19 restrictions, even though the Lone Star state hit a record high in daily infection rates over the weekend.
Like the Georgia voting guy said, “numbers don’t lie.” I expect large numbers of dead Texans over the next few months.
There are way too many crazy Texans anyways. Won’t be a disaster if a few thousand of the dumbest croak.
COVID disproportionately sickens and kills people of color, so I can see where Abbott thinks there isn’t a problem.
A lockdown in Texas??? What day was that, must have slept through it or had no internet that day.
So, once again, Texas stands its ground.
The world would be a better place, for Texans most of all, but also for the rest of us, if Texas could manage to forget the damn Alamo once in a while.

Local officials implemented relatively weak lockdowns in places like Dallas County, Harris County, and Travis County back in April/May. As far as I could tell, they were quite effective, limiting daily new cases in those places to double digits or the low hundreds. Abbott eliminated local officials’ authority when he implemented his own, statewide pandemic rules in May, and we’ve been off to the races since then. Dallas County broke 2,000 daily new cases over the weekend. We’re fucked.
The Declaration of Independence says Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Republicans skip right over the life part, except for the unborn.
It’s going to be a race to the bottom, Abbott versus Noem, as to which state has the most cases and deaths.

That’s only a significant decrease if you see a daily decrease from then on. Otherwise, it’s just a fluctuation.
