State’s Rights has always been a Republican joke.

Republicans believe the rich and elite can do anything they want, legal or illegal, whenever they want.

Fat Donnie loves Abbott because being in a wheelchair means he’s always at the perfect height to give Fat Boy a blowjob.

They don’t just believe it. They know it to be true about 98% of the time, especially with Schumer and his ventriloquist dummy Jefferies doing everything they can to make sure they get away with it.

I keep getting a whiff of parental authority: “You’ll do as I say because I’m your parent.” Also: “If you’re living under my roof then you’ll do what I say!”

The story is not that Republicans are hypocrites. The story is that they will say anything in service of their unspoken actual agenda.

Thank you. I had a similar thought, but would have used a lot more words to attempt to express it.

Abbott is also joining at least 18 other states in an effort to eliminate property taxes. Property taxes fund most government services in Texas. Sales tax makes up the difference. Sales tax is 8.5% with 6.5% to the state and 2% divided among local governments on a voter approved basis. The 2% can be divided in half-cent increments among various governments (City, transportation, emergency services, library, etc.) Remember, Texas does not have an income tax so we are NOT overtaxed.

Sales taxes, which are first sent to the State, would likely go up dramatically and function more like a Value Added Tax through each transaction in the supply chain. Much like most European countries, Canada, etc.

Local governments and their constituents would lose the ability to make their own decisions to fund essential services and local interest needs at the level desired by the residents. Local governments would become subservient to the the State for funding and the State would determine if the local government was ‘behaving’ well enough to deserve funding and for what. SOUND FAMILIAR?

Abbott has sold his soul to the devil.

Well, doesn’t that just figure. Property taxes are related to “wealth”, which is sacred and should be inherited tax-free, right? So they need to be abolished! No wealth tax! And take that, Doctor Senator Warren!

Gross receipts taxes, on the other hand, are related to consumption, without regard for the income or wealth that enables that consumption, and are thus regressive. Good deal! The more you have, the less (percentage wise) you pay! Tough luck for the poor suckers who weren’t born rich, or who were dumb enough to want families!
