Texas Dems Dismiss GOP Gripes, Arguing That Abbott ‘Poisoned The Process’ From The First

Fresh off their flight, Texas Democrats held court outside the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday where they argued that their exodus was only as extreme as the GOP actions that forced it.

Biden should endorse the Texas legislators’ walk-out as a legitimate defense of democracy and should make this the starting-point of his escalating drive to get effective voting-rights legislation passed by both houses of Congress.

Are you listening, Manchin and Sinema?

These are TX legislators kicking ass, and Turner is an impressive dude.

You love to see it.

Claiming it “isn’t very Texan” to runaway just proves you don’t know anything about Texas, Greg. You apparently don’t know about Sam Houston’s Great Runaway. It’s very Texan to run off when threatened.

God I do love this. Abbott can bluster, but he’s just making noise.

Like I said yesterday, he who fights then runs away, lives to fight another day.

That’s why Houston retreated and told the Texians to burn their houses as Santa Ana split his forces and advanced. Houston ran all the way from north of San Antonio down to the coast. And then turned and beat the shit out of Santa Ana. Greg needs to read up on his Texas history.

Are you Bob Marley? Nice to have you here, if so.

Back in May, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) said he’d veto the part of the state budget that funds the legislative branch after Texas Democrats staged their first walkout to kill an earlier iteration of the voting restrictions during the regular session.

I don’t know how it works in Texas, but in every place I’ve been employed, if they don’t pay, I don’t work.

Not sure why Abbott thought it was a good idea to give Democrats such an easy talking point on this issue.

My dearest hope is that the Texans are meeting with Sinema and Manchin and metaphorically beating the shit out of them with the facts.

Yeah my husband and I were talking about that this morning. They aren’t getting paid so why show up anyway?

They are bought. They aren’t going to be convinced by facts or anything else.

The old saying "Everything’s Big in Texas" also applies to Repub corruption, delusional thinking, and extremism.

The extremism has gotten really extreme. Abbott wants to pass a law making it legal for anyone to sue anyone else who helps a woman get an abortion. Where does the standing come from ? I’m tempted to help someone just to get to court. This is utter bullshit.

Why don’t these Democrats in the Texas lege just use the filibuster to block GOP voter-suppression?!

Oh, wait…

It isn’t just the legislators.

And now this. HaHaHa!

“But by crossing state lines, the quorum-busting Democrats have escaped the jurisdiction of Texas law enforcement. Even if Democrats avoid arrest while in D.C., Gov. Greg Abbott said the members would be arrested upon their return to the state.”

“…when you say ‘I am going to be the absolute ruler of the state of Texas and defund the legislative branch,’ you have poisoned the entire process.”

True.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this is the Texas history that Greg was taught. But learning shouldn’t stop once you graduate HS.
