Texas Dems Block GOP Anti-Voting Bill By Walking Out Of Chamber

Texas Democrats walked out the state’s House chamber during a crucial session on Sunday night and blocked the passage of the GOP’s sweeping bill, aka SB7, that would impose heavy restrictions on voting access.

When “the parties of ideas” have sucky ideas, suppress the vote. It’s all that’s left.

It’s great to see victories.

What can those of us out-of-state do to help?

If ever there was a need for a governmental body to do as little as possible, it’s in Texas. Bravo, Democrats!

I love the Texas Democrats stand-off and refusing to participate in such a shame in the legislation! Now if my FEDERAL Democrats would spunk up muster to treat GOPers in same fashion!

I am heartened to see dems finally realizing, as GOPers have known and exploited for many years, the fact that procedural minutiae can be effectively used to shape policy.

There’s nothing like solidarity to get things done. I love this sort of decisive action.

Meanwhile, I just read this article.

It may be just a temporary respite as Abbott will call a special session, but a victory is a victory. I’m happy to see Democrats have learned from Republicans that you have to use every possible tactic at your disposal to delay, distract, hinder the opposition. And who knows? Buying time might pay off.

Nothing is stopping us from contributing money to Democrats running for the Texas legislature or from phone canvassing for those Democrats.

Didn’t the Texas Dems actually flee the state several years back, to block out of control Repub legislation? As I recall, they came to New Mexico and, for once, were welcomed.

The walkout is 100% justified. The conference committee Republicans froze out the Dem conferees and somehow managed to blow up a 27-page bill into a 226-pager. Nobody knows what the fuck is in it anymore.

Perhaps the worst part of the bill is the provision to allow a judge to overturn the result of an election based on only a suspicion of fraud. No proof required. The restricted hours and partisan poll watchers being allowed to roam polling places is just a piece of this anti democratic legislation.

There is a very good reason that partisan poll watchers should be illegal. The voting place, and its immediate vicinity, should be absolutely non-partisan.

The GOP constitutes some of Manchin’s “patriots”? These cats would give Stalin a run for his money.

SB7 would gut access to voting, particularly in Texas’ communities of color

Racism in plain sight.

And not just what Texas Republicans are doing. It’s being commonly and casually reported. And then we all move on.

Absolutely appalling. Not only do you suppress the vote, you simply brush every damn vote aside and declare one candidate the victor without any acknowledgement of the votes cast at all.

They fled to Ardmore, OK in order to prevent the Tom Delay orchestrated redistricting that resembled a Rorschach Test on acid. He then used the FAA to illegally track one of the Dems planes to find them.

Maybe Manchin can square the circle of supporting a filibuster which guarantees the Voter Suppression as shown here.

I’ve heard of Houdini, but maybe Manchin is an even better contortionist.

I am dead serious: the time has come to choose either to be Russia West or the U.S.A.
