Texas health officials won’t be releasing the findings of their latest study on statewide maternal death rates until next summer, a major delay from the original September 1 release date.
This is an obvious ploy to keep this information out of the hands/minds of the voters. While pregnancy and birthing a baby are so much safer than in the past they are not without serious risks. The forced birthers want to ignore those risks.
Exactly. “And the fact it isn’t easily understood or easily comparable in my mind leaves room for a great deal of misunderstanding about what the data really means.”
After the election has died down, and 9 months from now, we will give birth to a whole new meaning of maternal mishaps.
Back in 2013, Texas had some of the highest pregnancy-related mortality rates in the country. There’s no way they want someone to be able to do an updated comparative analysis to show how dangerous pregnancy is in Texas.
This was a national study by the NIH
Conclusion: Legal induced abortion is markedly safer than childbirth. The risk of death associated with childbirth is approximately 14 times higher than that with abortion. Similarly, the overall morbidity associated with childbirth exceeds that with abortion.
Good, people can now imagine the worst then. Or maybe there’s no imagination needed:
But even without the precise figures, the dangerous consequences of the ban have already emerged: There are troublingreports of Texas women being denied care for pregnancy complications by health providers who fear they may be violating the ban, which only allows exceptions for poorly-defined “medical emergencies.”
Oh he thought them through … just not like a normal person …
Ted Bundy thought things through
Jeffery Dahmer thought things through
Ted Kaczynski thought lots of things through
Seriously - some of the stuff that Alito wove into his opinion is … mind boggling!
I don’t think Beto will let them off of the hook so easily. Abbott, Patrick, Paxton, and Cruz should be asked about it by the press at every opportunity. Edit. Ronny (Dr, Go-Go) Jackson too.
“The information we provide is not easily understood, and not easily and readily comparable to what goes on in other states,” the official said. “And the fact it isn’t easily understood or easily comparable in my mind leaves room for a great deal of misunderstanding about what the data really means.”
We can’t expect people to understand this information. It’s not as if we have people who should be able to contextualize it in ways that make it accessible, especially since there will be people out there who also understand that information and will point out that we are willfully obscuring it.
Relax, ladies, we know what’s best for you. Trust us on this one.
Hellerstedt told the committee that the DSHS didn’t have enough staff and funding to complete the study, which focuses on death rates in2019, on time.
The Texas law that (mostly) banned abortion in the state didn’t go into effect until September of 2021…so this data wouldn’t shed any light on that issue. I don’t think there’s a direct line to the midterms that some of you are assuming.
