“They really like them (guns)”
So why? I think that affection is an artifact of their “great replacement” paranoia.
Raw, unmitigated racism is at the heart of every 2A proponent.
In my experience, the level of staff control over the student body varies widely from school to school and, within schools, from class to class. This may be the result of many factors that have nothing to do with the teachers working in a building.
Consequently, the only way to assure control over firearms staff may bring to school is not to have them there.
If ANY of my English teachers in Junior High or High School had guns in their desks I would either be dead or a witness to multiple senseless killings (don’t get me started on the Wood, Metal and Auto Shop teachers).
The Giffords institute article was last updated in July of 22. The incident in Michigan was reported on Oct 4, 2022, so it’s not on the Giffords’ list yet. The Giffords list does highlight a truly astonishing number of guns just left lying around schools. We’re quite lucky there haven’t been more accidental discharges.
And that is only half the danger of teachers having guns.
There is also the issue of where they would keep their guns. I doubt they would carry them with them all the time at school. Which means they have to put them somewhere at school.
I knew, as did many others, how to break into high school lockers and teachers desks.
So not only would there be the issue of teachers killing students, there would be the issue of students having easy access to guns of teachers.
Arming teachers makes the situation more dangerous.
