CHICAGO (AP) — Potentially dangerous coronavirus misinformation has spread from continent to continent like the pandemic itself, forcing the world’s largest tech companies to take unprecedented action to protect public health.
Twitter needs to DELETE Trump’s Tweets when he is clearly LYING or Gaslighting Americans or Threatening Americans because they can be deadly in times of coronavirus!
STOP enabling Trump’s tweets that encourage Stochastic Terrorism, MAGA bombing, and Mass shootings!
All the trumpomatons in my facebook feed are STILL all like “it’s killed fewer people than the flu” and all the other deplorable talking points. They have successfully politicized this just like climate change.
I think what we should remember when it comes to malignancies like Facebook, Twitter and Google is they write their own rules. They are not a part of Government and not subject to First Amendment restraints. They can deny anything they like and break no laws in doing so. If they don’t like the color of your page’s background they can delete you. No law broken. If they allow you to post racist posts, misogynist posts or political misinformation it’s because they wrote the rules that force them to do so. And they don’t have to obey their rules.
So lets stop the freedom of speech bullshit. If it’s on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap chat, Google or any other web cesspool it’s because they allow it to be there. They don’t have to let it be there.
It they’re too big to clean up the mess they made of themselves, Facebook’s leading excuse, then trim them down until they can. They are not essential. They have no right to make our lives miserable.
BREAK them UP. Tech giants IBM and AT&T did fine after being on the losing end of anti-trust rulings, Microsoft too. This too big to fail bullshit has to go.
These big tech firms are waving a shiny object with one hand, and picking our pockets with the other.
The shiny object is their “willingness” and “methods” to eliminate misinformation.
The problem is with their business model, which is not amenable to eliminating misinformation. They ought to know this all too well. Just listen to Zuckerberg parroting party lines fed to him by Sheryl Sandberg. He’s so sincere because he believes it, but he has no-one to point out the damage his business model creates. Stop with the targeted ads, stop using other databases, and revert back to being simply a social network. That’s the only way. Then Facebook can fulfill its supposed goal of uniting the world.
Likewise with the others firms. The way to get at this is legislation confirming that our data belongs to us, not to them, regardless of whatever “terms of agreement” we’ve clicked on in order to use their “services.” Simple, effective. They can still make gobs of money, but this approach will help get Big Tech Brother out of our lives. They’ll lobby and fight such legislation tooth and nail, and they’ll surely believe what they say about doing good. But it simply doesn’t work. It’s like trying to explain algebra to a third grader. They are too immature and they simply don’t know enough.
