If I am allowed to be sarcastic, I have a solution Republicans should support.

Arm all local election officials with assault weapons. I got to believe it is safer than arming teachers and putting guns in classrooms.

So the Republicans have set up their own self fulfilling prophecy. Harass those that know how conduct elections so they leave. Get their own neophytes in there, and let the shit show commence.

This dangerous bullshit is going to continue until many, many, many people are jailed for many, many, many years. I propose releasing the 100s of thousands of non-violent drug “offenders” and, because prisons are now for-profit businesses, replacing them with actual criminals that actually endanger society, beginning with those whom threaten election officials.

Kala’s piece glossed over the main threat:

Similarly, former Cochise County elections director Lisa Marra resigned in January after her work environment became physically and emotionally threatening, according to her lawyer. She was replaced on Tuesday by an official who boosted numerous social media posts doubting the validity of the 2020 election.

Let the election thieving commence!

If MAGA extremists are chasing election officials out of their roles, the purpose is to replace the officials with true believers willing to overturn an election because they don’t like the outcome. This is a very dangerous threat to democracy.

yep, our elections office candidates were considered so minor they weren’t invited to televised debates
last year was completely different and it was one of the most watched local debates

a Trumper won

Between the debt ceiling, DiFi and the judges, election officials quitting en masse, RFK Jr running and getting 14% right off the bat and our very great President Biden running for re-election at the age of 82, I feel like I am watching some kind of slow motion train wreck where a little bit is revealed every day in some kind of surrealistic nightmare. I also feel powerless to do much of anything about it beyond what I am already doing.

This does not smell good

What the Press does not understand is that BothSides will end when the fascists take over.

This problem has to be fixed at the source.

threats and harassment – which have plagued the field since former president Donald Trump started propagating the Big Lie

This. They are planting the seeds of a stolen election.

It’d be too much to ask that those threatening and harassing election workers find themselves looking at some real time. I get it: it’d be ‘divisive,’ eh?

My guess is that’s a tremendously soft 14% for RFK, Jr. and more of a, ‘Joe Biden is getting old and I would prefer someone else’ vote.

Will this country ever recover from Trump? Not in my life time.

All things must pass

– George Harrison, 1970

Roughly 80 million eligible adults in the US (almost) never vote. Some were moved to vote by Trump, which is his charm. Many are very low-information voters, so they can be counted on to party cue. They also may be unaware of basic civic principles and unclear on how rule of law works. A lot of these problems could be reduced simply by making voter registration automatic. This is the case in Finland, which even if it elected a right-wing government, has remained calm and decent throughout the election process with a 73% voter turnout. It highlights to some extent the importance of a literate, educated population in protecting the integrity of the voting system.

Two things on this:

The infiltration of election deniers into the election offices will be what erodes the vote to total irrelevance. If my vote can be eradicated because I don’t vote the way my election clerk or poll worker wants me to, then why would I even bother showing up to the polls? Bogus arguments for discrediting my vote would very possibly be non-negotiable and I might not even know my vote was thrown out.

Secondly, most election officials are not all that well-paid if they’re paid at all. No one is going to put up with the harassment and threats while getting so little in return.
