Is it possible they might say we are no longer a colonial state, ergo the Amendment is mooted?
That would be so cool because that requires, in order to sustain an originalist position, that it was known such an era was only temporary and it was such common knowledge they never would have thought to have added “For the time being,”
They wear “ICE” on their body armor … to me that makes these fucking thugs “immigration agents”. Wear the swastica, full Nazi uniform and what am I supposed to think? Right now these thugs are roaming Tucson. At Taco Grande they made ordering a taco a felony basically with their fucking thuggery. Am I supposed to admire their bravery when they pepper spray a member of Congress who was seeking lunch?
The italicized part is where any creative re-interpretation will originate. See DC v. Heller for the template. I fully expect to hear discussions on such scintillating topics as:
What do the commas mean here?
How do we interpret ‘and’?
Does the clause narrow the scope of the antecedent, and if so, what are the limits of that narrowing?
That’s so babies of diplomats can have kids given their citizenship. It is NOT meant as evil but courtesy. My parents were Citizens. I was born in California. QED.
… it took until Friday for the Supreme Court to announce that it will hear the case on the merits.
“Yeah, um, sorry about that. It took us longer than usual to devise a plausible argument supporting President Trump’s position that we could get any of the other conservative justices to agree with.”
and it doesn’t serve any of the financial interests of their emotional support billionaires.
You overlook the biggest benefit to the Epstein class and the GOP - it calls into question who is legally able to vote as the traditional evidence of citizenship (birth certificate) is no longer enough. That’s enough wiggle room for red states to toss out huge swaths of Dem voters right before the midterms to try to cling to power.
“…And the State wherein they reside.” That sounds like a semantic loophole big enough for a drunk to drive a semi through. I mean, if you are here temporarily, you obviously don’t reside here.
To me, the daughter of immigrants and a birthright citizen, the question is if the Fascist Six decide to go down this path, how many generations are affected. Does declaring my sister’s citizenship null and void also nullify the citizenship of her daughter and grandchildren? How will the decision on who’s in and who’s out be made? Skin color? Years of residency? State in which one resides? Income? Seems like it would be an intractable mess.
