What I want the court to say is that this entire idea flies in the face of the 14th amendment and settled law, as you clearly state. The problem is, precedent has no meaning for this bench (well, maybe for three of them, but they aren’t the majority). They have demonstrated that several times over the last year or two or three.

It would be criminal for the bench to re-write the Constitution to suit themselves and the First Felon, but the FF did this as an executive order, so not only has the Congress been bypassed, but the court will more than likely be ignored, with a decision in favor of the 14th amendment. Has the administration listened to any unfavorable decision yet?

You are completely wrong and you have absolutely no rationale other than “it doesn’t serve any of the financial interests of their emotional support billionaires.”

I mean, jesus christ talk about a failure of imagination. Of course it suits their needs, financial and otherwise. First, it sows ever more chaos, resentment and anger while creating a decades-long distraction. Second, if they can take away birthright citizenship, just strip it right out of the constitution, then then can strip any right away. Redress the government? Fuck you, you’re a terrorist, off to prison. Are you daft? A ruling like this is a Trojan Horse intended to strip all of us of all our rights and while we’re fighting for basic human rights, they’re living it up for generations to come. Boggles the imagination that you’re so blase about this.

If they can wave their hands and to kill a Constitutional Amendment without going through all the required steps, isn’t that the same as a full insurrection? What else is there? We don’t have Stare Decisis anymore. They could just as easily declare that there are another 20 senators or a 5-year term for president, or anything else.

What merits? There isn’t an issue. It is the plain meaning of the text of the Constitution. Justice Roberts is bucking for the same historic reputation as Roger Taney.

Two points. Voting for Democrats becomes impossible once the Supreme Court declares you are no longer a citizen. Overturning this means that anyone “suspicious” can be turned away, or given a provisional ballot to be checked later and, with our Federal Government, to be “lost” during checking. My family is safe, my Grandma was a Daughter of the American Revolution, with papers to back it up. Other people wont’ be so lucky. Born in the USA 60 years ago to immigrant parents AND a registered Democrat, too bad, so sad, you should have been naturalized.

The other thing is that they WANT to disenfranchise anyone who doesn’t think the way they do. The Savage Six has just found another way to maintain a permanent Republican, white, Christian oligarchy. I’m just waiting for them to dissect the 19th Amendment to find a way to say that no one ever MEANT to give women the vote.

Through normal channels like anyone else before this year.

Also, millions of non-citizens, who have nowhere to go means big business can pay slave wages to anyone who doesn’t have their papers in order. These people will also be ineligible for Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc. Taking away legal citizenship works so, so well for the oligarchs.

I agree with you—except that it’s still possible that either Alito or Thomas will pull a dead rabbit out of a hat and try on some mealy-mouthed quasi-legal pretzel logic to soothe Trump’s feelings a little bit.

I think SCOTUS has to rule on this–again–because of Trump’s stupid EO and his overt racism.
