Supreme Court Opens Door To South Carolina Reinstituting ‘Stark Racial Gerrymander’

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear a challenge brought by South Carolina Republican officials seeking to overturn a lower court ruling requiring them to redraw their “stark racial gerrymander” of a congressional district in the state.

FRIST!!! Roberts is no doubt proud of his legacy of disenfranchising huge numbers of POC, women, and Democrats. That has been his lifelong project. Gerrymandering the red states to the point of one party white hegemony is just the cherry on the top of that rancid sundae.

ETA Obligatory cats.

Proof that Lee Atwater was right, that you can’t just scream “n*gger, n*gger, n*gger” anymore. You have to use obscured ways to do the same thing.

Republicans cut more than 30,000 Black voters from the district during the decennial redistricting that was completed last year, enabling Mace to glide to reelection in 2022 by 14 points.

Will the Supreme Court say it’s perfectly legal for a political party to rig an election?

Supreme Court (BS) justification…

If gerrymandering were unpopular, the voters would vote out those who set up the gerrymander in the first place…

I thought for sure, by now, Trump would have put this rule to a direct test…

“Mexicans are rapists” seemed to indicate we were close.

I’m really surprised he hasnt…

The right-wing majority seems poised to add another case to that distortion of American democracy.

What distortion?

Unless I say it this way, it’s going to take forever: it takes a white person to think that the U.S. was a democracy before the passage of the Voting Rights Act. It was not. So this is not a distortion, it is a return to form.

You got that right. Roberts is the cagiest tool on the court. Will be interesting to see how they all rule after the latest barrage of negative publicity and attention to the corrupt stacked court.
Will they double down or will they temper themselves? My gut says they double down and thumb their noses at us.

Thank God we live in a post-racist society or this would be awful.

I agree. Roberts is so close to his goal of disenfranchising all of the undesirables, he can probably taste it. Roberts and the Fascist Five see their chance to take the whole pot and are not going to quit until they get every last chip. It will take a long, long time to unwind and rectify the damage to our government and society.

The proof of the failure of the American Right occurs every time one of these failing states sticks its hands out to the Fed.

These people are rank failures. Listening to them on any point is facile.

Without the church these shits disappear.

Speaking of the court, now that Feinstein is back, can we expect a subpoena for Clarence Thomas one of these days? Maybe before next year’s election? I would bet that Sheldon Whitehouse is chomping at the bit.
