To hear them tell it, the Supreme Court justices are very concerned about injecting chaos into an election cycle by upending or approving changes to how voting operates just before people head to the polls.
The date on the outer envelope is just effing irrelevant if the ballot is received on a timely basis. I guess the next move for Sam, Clarence and the rest of the Gang of Six will be to simply invalidate any ballots for Dem candidates. We are getting close to that now.
It’s the outside of the envelope that they arguing about.
Yep, and wow be to the voter that fills in their ballot on one day, but doesn’t put it in the envelope that same day. There could be times where the ballot is dated earlier than the envelope. I know, I know this picky, picky.
Can some clarify for me when vote by mail took off, I outside of the Oregon? I seem to remember that a lot of red states, or red leaning states instituted VBM prior to the FGP.
Well, it’s been in use for some time in most places, I should think, as it is one of the primary means of voting absentee. People were voting by mail long before they were voting early.
The pandemic, of course, was the reason that a lot of states loosened the requirements for voting absentee and voting in person. And also widened the use of drop boxes and early voting opportunities.
Virginia had very strict limits for absentee voting before the pandemic, but now it’s pretty loose, and I for one hope it doesn’t go back to having to have an “excuse” that the state considers legitimate in order to vote absentee.
I’m not well-versed in the arcana of dating the envelope, but when I fill out my mail-in ballot in WA, I, and I alone, know when I filled it out. I really struggle to see the materiality of the date on an envelope for deciding when a ballot is valid. Once you take the ballot out of the envelope, you have no idea whether the envelope was dated or not (or even what date was provided, which is already apparently acknowledged to be irrelevant). If the ballot itself is valid, it’s absurd to discount it because it was housed in an undated bit of paper.
But in the absence of sanity, the only clear option will be a last-minute, “Remember to date your envelope!” media campaign. Maybe something that local news stations could do, as a PSA, just as part of their normal duties? It’s not taking any political side, but it’s still a major influence on people in their community.
Wikipedia has more than you ever wanted to know about this. It is not what they call a “1-minute read” but if you do want to know all about this, see Postal voting in the United States.
Mastriano will require people to re-register to vote and decertify certain voting machines and we know the Court will back him.
This and number of other comments he has made means he will determine election results in PA.
He is not a Jesus freak, he is Jesus.
In MO we had/have absentee voting with an excuse, but I think that they opened up early voting slightly before the pandemic. I do remember that the were swamped during early voting in 2020.
