The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Wednesday that Tennessee’s ban on gender affirming care in cases of gender dysphoria does not trigger heightened legal protections. At the same time, it allowed that the same exact care for minors going through other conditions like precocious puberty could. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, claimed that…

The decision is not a surprise. It just isn’t. And the process will be rapidly challenged in as many as twenty States (over-run by GQP dingbats) before the end of the year.

Why let facts get in the way of a good narrative?

Does this mean teen boys can no longer get breast reduction surgeries? One of the most common forms of gender affirming treatments.

I was talking to my one sister yesterday. While she supports transgender rights, she still questions transgender women competing in sports, especially if they already went through male puberty.

I reminded her that Trump and many states are trying to outlaw transgender care for minors, which would outlaw puberty blockers and hormone therapy. So these (very few) transgender female athletes would be fucked.

Reading this makes me nauseous. SCOTUS has legalized discrimination of transgender people. It has been open season on us for a few years. Now it’s settled law. Shame on these people!

If 15 year old underwent a surgical genital augmentation to be physically identifiable as male … could Red States now proceed to forcibly reverse the procedure … chop it off?

Because you know that there will be a push by some to undo what has been done - and to hell with what the individual desires.

I gotta go pull weeds — thinking about the consequences of this is just making me sick.

Just to be realistic here, transgender care for minors consists of fairly non-invasive and reversible puberty blockers and hormone therapy. While surgery may happen in an infinitesimal number of cases, it is truly not an issue for transgender minors and their families.

ETA – Some people would argue that genital surgery is not just already happening, but are also legal and quite common within the greater American population. Circumcisions are also not reversible.

The overt and deliberate cruelty—not to mention the abject stupidity—in this decision is shocking but not at all surprising.

The Roberts court, once again, trying to steal the mantle from the Taney court (Dread Scott) as the most ethically broken, shamefully corrupt, demented, undemocratic, and just plain old fucked up court of all time.

Is anybody surprised? We have a President working hard to destroy the American economy, ruin America’s place in the world and deny all of us of our future, yet we are focused on transgender care for youth and transgender athletes. We are always being invited to go down a culture war rat hole by politicians who are robbing us blind.

OK. Will do. Mourn. This is a small issue, impacting very few people, but I recognize it is important. The court is just consistent. It wants legislatures to be able to control human sexuality… It is what happens when you load the court with conservative Catholics. Anybody surprised by the result?
