The Dakotas as well. North Dakota has a population of about 800k and South Dakota 900k. The size of small cities in many other states. Two Senators per state has turned out to be permanent gerrymandering that deprives people who live in more populous states of equal representation in the Senate.
I’ve read and listened to many takes on what the Dems should do with the upcoming budget vote. Maybe we should shut the government down and go on a massive PR campaign about what so many people will lose if the Republican budget passes. Basics that the public clearly cares about across party lines. I’d like to hear some creative suggestions.
GOP SCOTUS: Down with the constitution and democracy, up with dictatorship and fascism, and no we don’t need to give you any stinkin’ reasons.
“With sickening servility, those who had betrayed freedom, goodness and truth were predicting the defeat of all Hitler’s opponents and proclaiming Hitlerism to be a truly new and higher order.” - Vasily Grossman, “Stalingrad’.
Sounds familiar.
For the refrain that I keep hearing about “blood in the streets” and such, well, the reality of such massive alleged resistance is shaping up like Fermi’s Paradox: “where is everybody?”
This makes little sense. If the President vetos a spending bill and it gets overturned normally that means it becomes law. Under the concept of a pocket recession, the president can override the override. Why have a veto process at all if the president can just wait until the end of the FY.
This is not new.
Its been Precedent for years
It will be entertaining how they rule against the next Democratic president using the same ruling to undo Trumps BS.
They were acting just like Jeffries/Schumer are now… not supporting the nominee despite their oreferred candidate losing the primary.
Which is to say Jeffries/Schumer and BernieBros should be held with the same regard.
For consistency’s sake
The Roberts Court has, since Trump’s emergence into politics, embraced previously undreamt expansions of presidential power
To the point where it’s legitimate to ask who needs a Court?
The conservative movement was wrong. Big government is good. It is, in fact, what the Founders wanted – an executive powerful enough to levy taxes, shut down whole cities over disrespect, lie in churches, attack pastors, execute citizens at will.
Big government is Republicanism.
Too late. We are already there.
Drone-mounted lasers to assist in disappearing people.
The vice president of the United States, the person one heart beat away from the presidency, agrees with me:
If you are going to truly crown a person as an authoritarian King of old, you have to allow him to do whatever he wants.
In fact, if you are going to make that coronation crystal clear, you need to allow him to allow him to the most heinous acts possible.
At six weeks before election day, this would be none too soon
Hard to see how we make America great again by making it something it never was and was never intended to be. Trump’s had success stripping the American out of half the American people and success in calling that an America First agenda. He’s been able to cower Congress and the Courts when they hold the power to push him back. If they choose to push there’d be jack shit Trump could do about it. They ceded the power given them by the American people and the American people should hold them in blame equal to that of Trump. Bet they don’t.
Obama was a catastrophe, not because he was a bad Predident,he was amazing and great, and I hold him in tremendous regard, but because he showed white conservative america that things were changing and it freaked them out and galvanized them to tremendous action. They have pulled every crooked trick out of the box that they could since his election and aren’t stopping until every person of color or progressive thought bends the knee. Those farmers whos livelihood is now threatened will suffer to keep gsys from being equal, every small dick big truck driving asshat will pay higher gas prices and lose everything before they give up their truck and status. The list goes on.
I assume you’re referring to Jeffries/Shumer refusal to endorse the very popular Mamdani for NY mayor? Their refusal is all about those damned campaign contributions they receive from AIPAC I suspect and the fact that Mamdani is/could be Muslim. They are spineless.
I think it’s time to set the pieties of John Roberts to music and dramatize them with Romans themselves sacking Rome, following the logic that has led this so-called court to overrule the constitution.
Seriously, there is a book where a guy wins an argument with God and goes around convinced he is licensed to do anything he pleases. That’s what we’ve got here. They’ve won a temporal equivalent, an argument with the founding principles of the country and with any statute that displeases their bigotry and conviction that the powerful should do as they please.
I want to hear so much more piety and chin-stroking diction of the “exclusive and preclusive” prerogatives (arrogatives?) of the presidency when a rapist, insurrectionist, murderer (via his mob on 1/6/2021), and who knows what other foul and uncivilized crimes, assumes the office. Or, is allowed into an office and pretends to discharge its duties.
These people are fucking depraved.
Excuse me, a lot of fun can be had dramatizing where this jurisfolly leads. Actors can have a fine time smashing up the stage or going French Clown on the crowd.
It’ll be a blast.
Oh, Elon Musk has said something else, too.
Everything’s going to fall apart! What enjoyment is to come! Run to New Zealand, Elon! Or Antarctica!
I’ve been practicing my imagination for a while now, for my own part.
& I sure as hell am not going to get onto Farcebook.
The hive mentality over there contributes to this national nod-along syndrome.
