Suddenly, the Tune Changes

Originally published at: Suddenly, the Tune Changes - TPM – Talking Points Memo

Hello it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender :coffee: In the days before law enforcement officials announced that they had found a suspect for the murder of Charlie Kirk in 22-year old Utahn Tyler Robinson, prominent figures on the right were out for blood. What they wanted, they said, were full-scale reprisals against the left.…

Kirk will be buried with great spectacle, receive the PMoF posthumously, then be forgotten by the Right. There was nothing unique about his style or content, and his fellow conservagrifters are already cannibalizing his network. MAGA wants to create martyrs to inspire the movement, but just like everything else, they’re too lazy and incompetent to actually follow through on it.

Trump’s only regret is he can’t fully use Kirk’s death to wreak violence against his opponents, but he fully intends to if given half a chance.

Meanwhile, SCOTUS fiddles while the country burns.

Kirks killer was a RWer.

Media will blame Meme’s and Video games, and never report his Trump or Groyper Halloween costumes.

They know Republicans piled on w/o knowledge of the shooters identity talked a lot of shit about violent political language being unacceptable, and the cause of this.

To report the kids intentions would pretty directly call out Republicans w/o any plausible “both sides” on the reaction to Kirk’s killing.

They don’t have it in them.

The fact we know, the media know, and surely the administration knows, means Kirk’s utility as a Reichstag event is passed, even if media only obliquely references the question.

The only reason the “tune has changed” must be that the singers got some info from the locals that suggest the shooter was more likely to be one of them, or at a minimum, not some “lefty.”
Kirk’s “dead people is the price we pay for the 2nd amendment” should be carved into his tombstone.

Trump and his right-wing goons are gonna apologize to everyone on the Left who they accused of killing Charlie Kirk, right?

What they wanted, they said, were full-scale reprisals against the left.

They still do, despite all evidence known at this time.

Since the First Felon called for the death penalty, does Utah even have that on the books?

The number of wars Trump has ended would fill 68 stories in a 58 story building.

It’s still remarkable how nobody hears about or gives a damn about 989 of 1000 murders, and what few damns remain are only given in service of jockeying for position in the big debate, like counting up a cribbage hand.

The hilarious part is when rightists think they’ve already pegged out and skunked before any cards are even flipped over.

“More and more commonly, the strongest public sentiment is one of profound loathing - subversive loathing of ‘the hegemonic discourse,’ Western loathing of the East, Eastern loathing of the West, secular loathing of believers, religious loathing of the secular. Sweeping, unmitigated loathing surges like vomit from the depths of this or that misery. Such extreme loathing is a component of fanaticism in all its guises.” ― Amos Oz

Trump:
“The radicals on the right often times are radical because they don’t want to see crime,” he said. “The radicals on the left are the problem, and they’re vicious and they’re horrible and they’re politically savvy.”
Well, so much for unifing the country. What a small petty man.

He already said he wasn’t interested in this. That is one hint in which I take him at his word. He finally said out loud his motive over the last ten or more years.

Elections have consequences… And with the anniversary of 9/11 being this past week it’s maybe worth a look backwards, not to the 2024 election or even the 2016 which brought the Orange Idiot into power, but to the 2000 election that brought in George W and the NeoCons. The election stolen by the SCOTUS interfering in the Florida recount. Where would we be today if Al Gore had been allowed to take office ? No " War On Terror " ? No invasion of Iraq and upending things in the Mid-East ? No massive loss of treasure and Goodwill around the world ? Maybe instead a continuation of the prosperity from 8 years of Democratic rule ? There certainly would never have been a door opened for a cheap conniving huckster such as Donald J Trump…
