‘Stunning:’ Former Federal Prosecutors Aghast At DOJ Reversal In Stone Case | Talking Points Memo

Several former federal prosecutors told TPM Tuesday that they were shocked by the news that the Justice Department was scaling back its sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone — an announcement that was made after President Trump tweeted angrily about a recommendation that had already been filed in court less than 24 hours earlier.

How can anyone be “aghast” with these folks anymore? How much and of what do you have to see to understand this isn’t going to stop. It’s just going to get worse.

A DOJ official told several outlets the decision to scale back the recommendation was made before the tweet.

The decision might very well have been made before Chiselin’ Trump sent his tweet. But that doesn’t matter. The pertient question is: Was the decision made before Chiselin’ Trump communicated his wishes to the DOJ?

Oh Susan Collins!

Are you concerned about this???.

I have a feeling the judge is going to ignore these new recommendations—with extreme
prejudice.

It began in November 2016 when Trump was elected.

It surfaced occasionally when Sessions was AG…

It really amped up in February 2019 when Barr became AG.

It continues unabated, and gathering momentum.

It must be stopped.

She hopes the DOJ has learned its lesson.

The Department of Justice is working as personal attorneys for anyone associated with the occupant. Every time he crosses a line you think nothing could be worse. His base cheers even though they haven’t got a clue who Stone is; all they is see the moron sticking it to the legal system.

@josephebacon Fuck Collins. I’m concerned. Aren’t you?

A. No, I am sure he’s learned his lesson.

She’s certainly made her feelings known, yes?

That would be the best news of the week, month, etc., if the judge actually did. If the Article III federal judges start countenancing these Trump/Barr Justice shenanigans, our goose really is cooked.

One of my earlier questions answered, at least in part: Would career prosecutors resign over this. At least one has.

One of the prosecutors has resigned.

Stunned but not surprised, I should think. They know that Don Donnie has Tom Hagen running the DOJ.

Yes, please, continue with yet another shit show provided by our own criminal administration. It just never stops.

At least one principled prosecutor, I am afraid most will decide that they would rather work for a corrupt organization, because you know there are bills to pay.

Fella will probably face retaliation

I’m of two minds regarding resignation in the face of the blatant corruption.

On the one hand - it says “I won’t put up with this shit!”

On the other hand - it says, “I can’t stop it, I’m going to cut my losses and retire.”

WHICH is it in this case? Is he resigning and going off to live away from it all? Or resigning - to hit the talk show circuit so he’s free to speak openly - and fight the good fight?

Guess we’ll see in a day or two.

This could be the intention on dijit’s part: to drive career Justice officials and make way for donors or family members or golf buddies to fill those positions. Part snark, but some truth.

Actually, the story is breathtaking to me. I guess I am still naive and can still be shocked. Barr has blatantly redefined the role of Attorney General into Trump’s personal lawyer who will protect him till the end. He’s done so in an obvious and heavy-handed way that I would not have expected.
