Do the parents and any children in school have library cards and how often are they used? You can’t ask, nor should the library answer, what materials were checked out, but if they have and/or use a card could be informative.

There are 3 county libraries around Wentzville, but the kids shouldn’t have to depend on the county system.
I’m spoiled because even though I live in West St. Louis County, my city, Kirkwood, has had it’s own library since the 1920s. We’re not part of the County system. I looked at the map when this story first broke here a couple of weeks ago, and unlike me those kids can’t just walk or ride their bike to closest county library.

Kirkwood is one of two or three full service cities within St. Louis County. We still have a city water, street, and electric department. And even though American Water-Missouri provides our drinking water, and Ameren Missouri provides our electricity, if I have a problem I call city hall, because they bill me for those services.
I called City of Kirkwood Water Dept when my exposed waterline burst in Jan. They got out here within 2 hours to shut off the water at the main. I’ve called them to check if my meter was frozen twice when my waterline froze. It’s the first thing on the check list.
I’ve had to call Kirkwood Electric when my power went out, but the neighbors around me haven’t lost power, and they’ve shown up when I hadn’t realized that there was problem.
The reason why I’m adamant about this is that there is days long conversation going on on Nextdoor about people who live in cities in the county that aren’t full service. They have made appointments with American Water or Ameren and the service people never show up. It’s got quite a bit of attention. And by reading what these people have had to go through I count my lucky stars that I do live in city with full service utility departments.

IF metro government is done right, everything is full service for everyone.

brings back memories…we lived in Crestwood (county library) but Kirkwood was closer. They charged $2 for a student non-resident library card in 1980 (the branch in Oakland opened about 1990)

Was always unusual having Kirkwood with the municipal services. Wonder…did they extend south of Big Bend (into Meacham Park)?

Meachem Park didn’t officially become part of Kirkwood until the 1980s?, when they built Kirkwood Commons. Up until then Meachem Park used Kirkwood for fire and police, not sure about water, but I remember that they didn’t get hooked into the MSD sewer lines until 60s.
I was thinking the complaining parents are not likely library users and don’t take their kids to the public library. Maybe they get to read “Christian books” from church.

As for the library thing most of the munis that have their own library are now in municipal lending system. I can go online through the Kirkwood Library portal and request any book or DVD in any library in St. Louis County. The item will get shipped to the Kirkwood Library, I get notified it’s in, and I go up and pick it up.

with parents alleging that the books they take issue with contain so-called “sexually explicit” content. And their arguments typically lack context. Parents are often seen in videos cherry-picking quotes they claimed to be offended by in books.
Guess whose reading comprehension scores are at ankle level.

Yeah I remember those from Borders. There were people who complained that the Christian fiction section was near the horror of horrors-the Psychology, World Religion, and Parenting sections.
