Self-styled reactionary Steve Bannon brandished a compliment he received from Ezra Klein during his Monday broadcast, exulting in praise from the sincere, liberal New York Times commentator.
O my god - I guess it’s true that all the ratwing really wants is sincere praise from us liberals. They just go gaga when they get it. Even the motherfucker melted like goo when Biden threw him the vaccine bone.
Maybe we need to deal with them on this level. This is how childish they are.
There is nothing new here. Just the Ezra article and the resultant bluster. We can be assured that there are swathes of people aware of what Bannon seems to see as something original, from him.
The rightwingers have only done this for decades, but good on the NYT for noticing. I expect next they’ll figure out that gerrymandering messes with voting.
In the piece, Klein argued that Bannon’s focus on organizing MAGA diehards to take over election infrastructure and the Republican Party may be an effective way to take power, and one that, in Klein’s view, progressives should consider.
I suspect Ezra Klein wasn’t complimenting Bannon as much as warning the left what’s happening. We tend to focus more on national races than drill down into local and hyper-local races, which we absolutely need to do.
I’m very glad Bannon is publicizing this because it gives this issue far more traction (and publicity) with my fellow progressives than just coming from Klein, even though he’s got quite the perch at the NYT.
I also couldn’t help noticing how happy Bannon is to make news in the “paper of record” despite his dismissiveness of all things liberal.
If in general liberals were as stupid and ill informed as the Goober cult then yeah but we aren’t. In any case to employ the Bannon strategy would take decades and a mouth piece as loud and as willing to lie as Fox.
I unpacked it yesterday. Essentially, Democrats should start focusing on local elections. (without losing their focus on national elections) Township and county levels. But many people have said this long before Klein.
I’d like to see a return to Howard Dean’s 50 state strategy also.
His record from 2005 - 2009 was pretty impressive.
They intend to overthrow the government by seizing the voting apparatus. That’s what it boils down to. It’s not just suppressing the vote; they’ve moved on to: he who counts the votes determines who wins. All the while, we have a SCOTUS that hears no evil, sees no evil…unless it’s a Democrat trying to pass legislation to help the average American.
I would add that Bannon’s success comes with the threat of violence. Not Bannon, but some worked-up crazy may come to kill you or your non-Trumpster family members. Given the low economic incentives for community service posts, the rational reaction is just not to get involved. Just having a rock tossed through your window or your car mirror torn off is enough to make the job unsavory.
