Hello, it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender
Steve Bannon, the MAGA broadcaster and once-and-future adviser to President Donald Trump, just gave an interview to The Economist where he openly discussed a potential “plan” for a third term. “Well, he’s going to get a third term. So, Trump ‘28,” Bannon said. “Trump is going…
“it’s that they [SCOTUS] are willing to push legal boundaries to serve his interests.”
”Push legal boundaries.” A bit disappointing to see TPM slip into the sort of weasel diction normally found in the Times and other big media. “Demolish legal boundaries” is better. And if the editors would allow an adverb: “Wantonly trash legal boundaries.”
It’s an age that calls for adverbs.
Trump28 … and Beyond!!
So clearly the plan is for an increasingly “Weekend at Bernie’s” presidency where the old fool gibbers dementedly while his Voughts and Millers and Hegsethes (etc) tear down the Federal government and rake in its riches in the background. Okay.
Only the “optics” are Bad
Note to Republicans: If it looks bad, it IS bad.
Johnson’s Permanent Vay-Cay
Good job, little Mikey! Another few weeks, and the House won’t be able to come back into session, because few commercial airlines will be flying anymore.
A glimpse here of what the expiring Obamacare subsidies will mean at ground level. Free gifted link:
I don’t expect this to change the rightward political tilt in South Florida because there are so many other factors in play, like how radioactive the term “socialist” is in this community. But because this will happen in every other state to some degree, it might be what eventually ends the shutdown. If Trump allows it, that is. At least some R’s in Congress are starting to freak out about it.
If it’s true that the Epstein files would really hurt Trump, then I’m not sure I see any motive for Johnson ever to re-convene the House. Seriously. Trump can just ask the Saudis to fund the parts of the government he wants open.
The Saudis may tire of his endless need for money as well as his habit of breaking any inconvenient agreements.
Once the ATCs stop getting paid, the call-outs we are already seeing at various airports will simply increase to unsustainable levels. While the ATCs can be fired, as Reagan did, it will take some time for the military ATCs to roll in in their place. It will be about a week of no air travel, maybe a little more.
A couple of air collisions should bring this all to a halt real quick and totally the responsible of the GQP and the administration. They are already losing the messaging war and this will be the climax, the shutdown and destruction of air travel.
After all, how will the MAGAts get their little ones to Disney without air travel?
Why the fuck is The Economist providing a platform to that skeevy bug colony?
Also, it’s another disappointing day in the obituaries.
Bannon lays the groundwork to accommodate a demented dictator. It gives him the look of someone who is still involved, but it’s really not necessary. MAGA has gotten screwed so much they have come to kind of like it.
I guess Johnson would have to be a 2-faced piece of human garbage, what with being a pastor for the church group that started the last civil war, and is hellbent on the next.
I kind of expect these disappointing obituary days to last forever. Because I keep envisioning somebody out there – Elon or Peter T or the like – busy right now fitting out a robotic AI Donny, that they’ll just roll into place when the biological Donny fails. They’ll have quickly stuck him in the secret underground freezer somewhere under the White House that they’ve prepared under cover of demolition.
And Russ V and Stephen M – in large part under control of the libertarian tech and crypto boys, of course – will just go on running things and none of us will ever know the difference…I mean, the new top-of-the-line robot will surely be programmed to continue some apparent aging, just as if he were the real McCoy. … And the only thing anybody might notice is that Melania’ll be a lot happier.

Yakkitty yak. don’t come back!!!
Another solid troll. These people are nothing if not dismissive, or given the fascist proclivities perhaps dehumanizing works. Given how their win in '24 was pretty close, you have to exclude about half the voting popuiace as “man, woman on the street.”
The Trump era has changed me though. I used to listen to what people running for office said and made my decisions based on what they proposed, with the knowledge that there are aspirations and realities. I don’t feel that’s really meaningful anymore. The things republicans say are meaningless for the most part. To a great extent both parties have distinct and in the case of the GOP unspoken platforms.
The GOPs unspoken platform breaks down to these things:
- Prejudice is good.
- Money spent on people we don’t approve of is waste.
- Money lavished on our supporters cannot be waste.
- Only our opponents are capable of wrongdoing.
- Our actions are always warranted and just.
- Our motivations are as pure as the driven snow.
- Opposition to our will is treason.
I think his assessment that “the man, woman” on the street wants this is correct. But only when you dismiss everyone who doesn’t support their agenda from having legitimate standing in the U.S.
I would add:
Cruelty committed for its own sake is a winning policy.
",people like Russ Vought and others that have spent years thinking this whole plan through.”
So what, that does not make it good or even legal, not to mention by 2028, Trump if he is even alive will be barking mad, so who takes over Steve-You?
