Missouri Republican Senate candidate Sarah Steelman loaned $100,000 to her own campaign on Friday, according to the campaign’s FEC filings. Steelman, a former state treasurer, is running against Rep. Todd Akin and businessman John Brunner for the Republican nomination. Steelman’s fundraising has lagged throughout her campaign and she had already loaned her campaign $400,000 this cycle, according Roll Call. The money is considered debt, meaning Steelman will have the ability to pay herself back after the campaign if sufficient funds are available. Brunner, a multimillionaire, has donated close to $5 million to his own campaign, according to the St. Louis Dispatch.
