Re-purposing known treatments and drugs is smart because a vaccine is years away if ever. Kaiser is setting up phase 1 studies but that could last for years. In the meantime many people can become gravely ill so why not work with things that are on hand. China has begun recruiting for IV vitamin C trials. The use of chloroquine was recommended by Professor Didier Raoult, director of the IHU (Mediterranean Infection Institute in Marseille back in February but people just blew it off. Now they are taking a serious look at it. Chloroquine is a relatively inexpensive drug and IV Vitamin C isn’t expensive either. There are many wellness centers in the US that offer IV Vitamin C. My cousin who is a MD offers it in her clinic.
Another treatment being tested for re-purposing is Remdesivir:

Trump has already taken “decisive action” twice, with his original China travel ban (a lot of good that did in the absence of any other plans), and his new European travel ban (which is shot full of holes and goes against the advice of epidemiologists). How much more decisive action do you expect? Trump thinks he was born with only so much decisive action in him, and he’s not going to waste it on the biggest health crisis we’ve faced in the last century. No, he’s saving it for another tax cut.
What’s his alleged reason for not declaring or has he even bothered to make one up yet?

The irony of Donald Trump’s election is now fully realized. The President is an enemy of the State.
It seems obvious that when he tried to minimize the severity of it at the beginning he boxed himself in and sees this declaration as an admission he was wrong. He’s terrified that he’ll lose the election because of the economic consequences, so he’s trying to rewrite reality in the hopes the warmer weather will make it dry up and blow away, like it’s a cold and flu season sort of thing, when there’s no reason to think that will happen. So it’s the same old thing, ignorance, mental illness, and pathological self-regard and inability to care about any goddamn person or thing outside himself. The Trump voters did this to us and while I don’t advocate violence in retaliation I sure as hell wouldn’t be surprised. You know what they’re doing in Iran right now? Digging mass graves.
Our government has taken on the character of just one man -its leader. It is incompetent, inefficient, divisive, racist, misogynistic, bigoted, vain, callous, and lacking in any character or dignity.

By the time Trump grudgingly changes his position on a declaration of emergency, it’ll be far too late for many people. You simply cannot be a day late and a dollar short -on every aspect -with a viral process, and you don’t need to be a public health specialist to know that.
