State Dept. Cancels Security Briefing | Talking Points Memo

Questions surrounding the specific intelligence regarding the Trump administration’s claim that there was an “imminent” threat to four U.S. embassies aren’t any closer to being answered after the State Department reportedly canceled a classified congressional briefing scheduled for Wednesday morning.

They would’ve held the briefing but couldn’t extract a promise of “no questions.”

Well, how else will State be able to create diversions from the imminent impeachment trial?

Maybe the new meme is “They can run but they can’t Hyde?”
Something scared them into stalling with such open exposure to critics, and that would appear to be the likeliest source of it.

Pompeo is worried that his Benghazi hearings past is about to come home to roost. There was NO imminent threat.

“Sorry everyone, we were just moments ago made aware of something from Agent Orange’s Twitter feed that completely undercuts the most recently agreed upon lie. Please return next week when we’ve got our stories straight(er).”

Do you ever get the feeling that Pompeo and Barr believe that Trump will win reelection?
They seem to do anything they want without fear maybe knowing how strong of hold Putin has in our voting system.

Pressed for an explanation, a State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said:

“Come on … everyone knows you have better information if we don’t do the briefing.”

Goodness Pompey the Not So Great is cowering in his office?
Let us not forget that Petty PompousAss was CIA Director at one time. And obviously this is what leadership looks like in Trump’s maladministration.

You’ve just had #45*'s middle finger waved in your face again. Furious won’t get sh*t done. Calculated actions might get something done.

No more Mr. (Ms) Nice Legislators.

Currently their job description includes “backing up the lies told by the President”. I can see why they’d rather skip that if possible.

Does anybody actually believe Trump’s changing stories about the justification for the assassination?

I think this was staff to staff briefing, but the same still holds. Oversight, Oversight, and budget cuts until answers are provided.

I think the opposite: they know the house of cards is going to crash in 10 months and are trying to avoid further entanglement as much as possible.

There was NO imminent threat.

Exactly. This whole thing is the most childish, pathetic evasion of the obvious problem—Trump just made it up—that can be imagined. The U.S. State Department used to be a pretty respectable outfit, but you look now at the level Trump has dragged it down to and it’s just a shame.

Wanted to note this specifically for @khyber900. We discussed this morning the failure of the SDNY and FBI to act on the threats against Yovanovich. Looks like someone is taking the threat seriously, if a bit late in the game, but discovery will be very interesting:

Which assassination? The Iranian General, or the U.S Ambassador?

Truly, Benghazi should be blown so far out of the water. One was a rigged set of scandal investigations about why Hilary Clinton didn’t do enough to keep terrorists from over-running our embassy…and now the new investigation will be why our current SoS and President Benedict Chump were possibly pursuing a HIT on our own embassy staff.

Donald is guilty as hell – and it shows. I hope Chief Justice Roberts is paying attention to all these childish shenanigans (including all the stooges shit that Rudy has been pulling in Ukraine on behalf of Donald). Roberts can’t help but notice and factor in at least some of this sad show into his decisions during the Senate trial.

It’s the tRump administration. We can do anything we want, no you can’t, yes we can, yes we can, yes we can!

Having to lie, dissemble, and shade the truth to be consistent with Trump’s ever-changing lies has been bad enough all along.

Now, they don’t even want to have to hear the questions in a classified briefing … let alone try to come up with answers.

I see what you did there!
