Probably the least-discussed terrifying statistic to emerge was included in British Petroleum’s just-released Statistical Review of World Energy 2019.
- Carbon emissions grew by 2.0%, the fastest growth for seven years.
The Sixth Great Extinction Event doesn’t really care much about racism, wealth disparity, keeping your doctor, high infant mortality, a place for mom, the 330% debt-to-GDP ratio, Mooslims, the low PISA scores of US students, robots, or financialization of everything. Jay Inslee has owned the correct overarching issue of the age, but he’s talking to a country with a scientific literacy rate about a quarter of typical industrial democracies. I look forward to seeing how he plans to message this.

I wish I could swap Inslee’s charisma with that of Buttigieg. Jay really is the best pick on the issues. As he says, climate change isn’t a single issue, it’s all the issues. Everything else is like arguing over the bar tab on the Titanic. Just think of recent progressive victories like the ACA and marriage equality. They won’t mean squat if the planet is on fire and billions are starving.

cue the Biden Brigade comment that “warren was a republican until 1996…”
Who ever says “The vice president reminds me of Rudy Giuliani in 2016. But instead of ‘noun…verb…9/11’ its ‘noun…verb…Obama’. I guess he’s afraid to run on his own record” wins the night
as a queer man, I resent the exclusion of Buttigieg from the minority category. And as a unicorn-American, I’m offended that you ignore that Williamson is on a different night as well.
